What are the top features to consider when choosing thermal imaging goggles for wildlife observation? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I’m considering getting a pair of thermal imaging goggles for wildlife observation, but with so many options out there, I’m not sure what features are most important for this specific use.

What key factors should I prioritize when selecting thermal goggles for wildlife observation? Are there particular features that make a noticeable difference in performance?

I’d appreciate any advice or recommendations based on your experience.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Sofiaera

A good set of thermal goggles is a multi thousand dollar investment. There are not many here on BF who have stepped up to that expenditure.
The 'Night vision for mortals' thread has solid advice, based on actual experience, from skilled users such as Vollmeise, covering several years in about 15 pages.
Thermal sensitivity, dispay resolution, field of view and zoom capability, robustness/waterproofing and warranty support and battery type, whether a standard or a custom design are all factors to be considered.
Note that the monoculars are much cheaper than the full binoculars, albeit less comfortable to use

I struggle to find a use case for thermal goggles. The usual use case for helmet mounted googles is for moving around terrain. Thermals are terrible for navigating terrain. The rocks you are going trip over are the same temperature as the ground.

The principal use case for thermals (outside their industrial uses) is in target acquisition, be it for observation, hunting, security or military.
