I am hoping this is in the correct section. This was spotted in the midlands, Uk, on Thornton Resevoir. The photo was taken in a makeshift way using a mobile phone and using a pair of Minox binoculars as a telephoto adapter! A conveniently placed stump served as the binocular mount and the phone held up to the eyepiece! This is a crop of the original photo.

Thank you. There were actually three of them, one jumped into the water before I managed to take this photo. The RSPB reference says they hang their wings out to dry and this is exactly what one of them was doing. That reference also talks about them being in conflict with fishers and this reservoir does have fishing and, in fact, several boats were out that day. I don't think I would like to get into conflict with one of those!
