Birding to me is 1) What is birding to you? Spotting as many different species as you can? Photographing them? Logging them? Like others, spending time outdoors with nature is what I enjoy. I first got into birding about 25 years ago in Kenya when there was always birds to see even when the bigger animals were being shy. We always used to keep a note of the days sightings (David would show me in field guide what I had seen and I would record write it down, If I don't record it I can forget). Now it is only really holidays or somewhere new that I record. Trip list and Life lists are kept electronicly now - mostly by David so not sure I would have them if left to my own device. 2) Do any of you feel that if you are going to photograph birds you also need to be very knowledgeable and skilled with 'photography' or are novice photos just as interesting? I leave the bulk of photography to David he has DSLR and long lens but occasionallyI take shots with a simple Nikon Zoom. 3) What is your favourite bird and why?? My favourite birds are Trogons, I love the colours, the fact that they usually call and after a struggle we normally find thems. Probably my favourite is Slaty-tailed Trogon which we saw after lots of our plans in Costa Rica were ruined by really bad flooding. This trogon flew into a tree above my head and just showed really well in the rain for ages letting me forget the disapointments. I'm also really fond of Yellow-headed Picathates as I chose a holiday in Ghana just so I could see them.
