Called and also checked the website to find out what I needed to do. Info and instructions were pretty standard fare.</p><p></p><p>2. Followed instructions and sent in the binoculars. Binoculars were placed in a plastic zip lock bag with the instructions for repairs and my personal info-( per website). They were then bubble wrapped over that; then placed inside a small cardboard box; then placed into a USPS Priority Flat rate shipping box that had Styrofoam Peanuts placed all around the inside cardboard box. Then shipped off fully insured.</p><p></p><p>3. Nikon was good about sending me emails for receipt of binocular and a couple others regarding status. I thought this was good and gave me confidence in their service.</p><p></p><p>4. 2 weeks later received a notice (email) which appeared to suggest that my binoculars would be arriving to me shortly- but it was not real clear from the email. </p><p></p><p>5. 3 days later I receive box from Nikon repairs- which a little over 2 1/2 week turn around, I thought was very good. I thought - "What in the world is going on here?" Because these binoculars were pristine when I sent them in- no damage what so ever! I open up the plastic bag and have a look at the binoculars. </p><p></p><p>The impact damage was both on the face of the metal housing under the ocular and just above that (on the top of the metal housing right under the twist down eye cups). I wondered how this could have happened- It looked as if these had been either smacked hard, or possibly dropped right onto the twist up eyecups, causing a chip on the top part of housing and then chipping the face of the housing. The part that was chipped off looked like the powder coating and metal flakes of the housing shroud. Plus as you may be able to see in the photos above- a big part of the paint area right to the (R) of the exposed gray metal chip was all surface cracked and was ready to flake off more.</p><p></p><p> All I know- is I thought that there is just about no possible way this could have been caused during shipment from me- I just had it packaged way to well. Plus- this looked like direct contact trauma; just my forensic thoughts at the time.</p><p></p><p>I look at the note in the box from Nikon and it says regarding what was done:</p><p></p><p> RPR IMPACT DAMAGE</p><p> ADJ OPTICAL ALIGNMENT</p><p> CLN LENS ELEMENT</p><p> GENERAL CHECK AND CLEAN </p><p></p><p>*And that was it- no notice or even a mention about the Diopter issue that I sent them in for- which was not addressed or fixed. </p><p></p><p>** BTW- the collimation on these was perfect before sending them in, there was no issue for that. </p><p></p><p>7. I call Nikon service right away and speak with a CS rep in the Dominican Republic ( apparently the USA office was closed - after hours). She said that that must have been is how they were sent in/ received ( like she could possibly know that) and it was not Nikon's fault about the impact damage and that would not be covered to fix. She said that when something comes in with impact damage- they take pics ( which I found out later they had not). She asked if I had taken pics of the binoculars before sending them in? I told her that I had not- ( for one, I never even thought of it, although now I will always be sure to before sending in anything for repair). She said to send them back into Nikon with a note, or I could call the 800 # again tomorrow. </p><p></p><p>I thought - "Hey- wait a minute here- this is totally bogus and now they are going to make me wrong for something that is not correct; this could go south in a hurry, like it had not already". I then thought, I better try and talk to a real person in charge some how before just sending these in with a note to the same service center.
