My fellow patch workers, without whose cheerfully cooperative spirit I would have seen far fewer good local birds. They are also a good source of banter, which brings me to... Humour. Sorry John, but as my taste in humour happily embraces irony and a little sarcasm I've not found the 'irrates' thread as glum as you - the TRUE grumps would never be bothering to communicate via a forum anyway (or in any way at all, probably) - just, erm, colourful. Just gloss over the objectionable and enjoy the bits in between. I love birders who take their young kids to twitches involving skulking birds. I did it once, to an Olive-backed Pipit in Epping Forest. The bird hadn't been seen all morning, then I arrived with two unruly boys and let them off the leash. Into the habbo they went, quickly flushing the pipit into a bush for all to see. The crowd clubbed together and bought us all a pub lunch, plus some sticks of Epping rock for the boys.
