What happened to my house finches (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone! I am new here so bear with me. We have house finches that made a nest on our patio motion light. They laid 3-4 eggs although one looked different. There were at least 2 blue speckled but right away there was a white one. My first question is do you think there was another bird there first that laid the white egg? It never hatched. Two blue ones did hatch into babies a week ago. My kids loved watching the process and they were so cute and friendly. We let our dog out that door and they were never bothered by the kids or dog we just stayed away when possible. I saw the mom on them yesterday and today we noticed no bird or beaks popping up to get fed so I peaked in and the two birds were dead and it looked pretty gruesome. The white egg still there and no mom or dad all day. What do you think happened?

Another bird probably attacked the fledglings which happens quite often sad to say. I'm assuming that the bird that laid the white egg deserted the nest for some reason.

The nest is tucked up on our motion light and in the corner under the roof over hang so set a ways away and we don’t usually get birds up there. I did see a sparrow try to go in the nest when mama was in there though. Would I sparrow hurt the babies?
