What is this cheeky caterpillar? (1 Viewer)

Hello - Just to prove that gardening isn't always a good thing, I was so please to find a large weed teeming with caterpillars. There were green ones and brown ones which I have identified as small whites and large whites. One reviewing the photos I had taken I was very surprised to find this buff coloured caterpillar underneath a couple of large white caterpillars! (I've flipped the picture) I've had a look on the plant the following day and can't spot it. Does anyone know what it is? I can't find much online about identifying caterpillars.

I'm in North West England and as well as the whites I have a lot of peacocks, small tortoiseshell and, I think, small woods....

Hi,

I think you would find it is Garden Pebble Evergestis forficalis, which is on the go at this time of year. It is not a butterfly, and would generally be partially spun inside a leaf.

Cheers

Jim
