What other hobbies do birders have? (1 Viewer)

C'est pas ma faute, je suis anglais.
I'm off out for a beer now - had wine and a nap earlier! Then I'll get some painting done and then more sleep. joy joy joy - wil have to find the time to fit in some birding tomorrow - got dinner with the in-laws but as they live in the hills right next to an Eagle Owl site, that suits me fine!

My other 'non-birding' hobbies normally include me still watching birds, I can never switch off!!! Kayaking (having a black tern sat on the kayak is pretty awesome!!!), hiking, riding all allow me going off looking for birds leaving my non-birding chums sighing, "always with the birds"!!!

Well impressed Rob, when's the next gig?

It's a part time thing so gigs tend to be well spread out.

Likely to be something in December - I'll keep you posted!

PS - cheers for the guided tour this morning - well worth the money - though I was disappointed with the long wait to connect with our target!!

Reformed "Bird Ignorer"!
I'm into 'Humour Therapy' and have done various bits of 'workshops' around that... I also do impersonations and a bit of daft 'stand up' stuff... plus some ventriloquism of all things.

Strange maybe... but it all keeps me out of mischief :king:

... I love collecting vintage fountain pens ;)

... RobertSeattle....what is it with you Americans (well, you and KC anyways...) and Fountain Pens!?;)

Do you mean to say that not all Americans collect Fountain Pens? What do the rest do?;)

That's right, Sancho. The rest collect guns. ...

Ah, yes. Another cute European introduction to the "New" World.

Actually, I have a few of those (guns) as well ;)

Watch out folks! Hide your women and children. And Stationery! She's packing heat (and a gun, too!).

I used to collect LPs, mostly gone. Some 800 CDs have replaced them. 70s rock and a bit of classical.

Other than that, pulling out crab grass is my July and August "hobby". Nobody else cares. They can't even distinguish single bladed real grass from crab grass. I think I might actually prefer clover, if home value etc was not an issue.

Bicycling, on and off. Too hot in July. I used to do it in my 30s all summer. BK, before kids. If I can steal away for an hour...2 hours is good for birding...most likely you find me in a bookstore. Just got rid of some 300 books for the family.

Great thread 3:)

Golf - although I do get told a lot to quit watching the birds and hit my shot. I also love to read, have been known to read the same books over and over. Used to Scuba - but Arizona is not a great place to do that, the desert doesn't work well for that hobby.

My other hobbies

Include,
Land Rovers, Travelling, photography and writing my webpage and blog.

Oh yes and following the fading fortunes of my team Leicester City.
Easy for me to say living downunder but I think I prefer a League 1 team to the greed of the Premier league.

Beer I like beer, particular Theakstone "Old Peculiar" Sadly its rarer than a sparrow up in these parts.

cheers Eric

Oh, you know, halftwo, changing the filters for the central heating, cleaning the indoor bathroom, and the like.

Say, how's that roof thatching coming along?

Well the sheep have eaten all that - and no point in central heating - it makes the pigs sweat.
Have replaced the sacks over the window frames with glass though.
That should keep the ice off the water butt in winter.

PS Eric (PomGoneWalkabout)
Welcome to BF.
Mount Surprise is near Brisbane isn't it?
Am heading your way soon.
