What other hobbies do birders have? (1 Viewer)

My other 'non-birding' hobbies normally include me still watching birds, I can never switch off!!!!

That's me for sure!!! A birding friend has offered me a cheap ticket to Glyndebourne (yeah Opera for those that don't know!) for mext month. It's quite a posh place, gotta get dressed up and all, with a long interval for a picnic/dinner....... I know the locale (it's only about 8 miles away from my house). I also happen to know it's a very good place for various raptors......I'll definately be taking my bins along, probabably seriptitiously,....... but as 3 of us are birders...hummm....we'll be fighting over them!;) 3:) Can't you just see it...posh people in their finery picnicing on the lawn and three incognito birders....more interested in what's in the air than who's who. :-O

well i enjoy traveling, hiking, camping ,etc, wich are all basically the same as birding. My other two hobbies, old skool skating and longboarding, especially technical sliding and downhill, and i play the bass-guitar. Between birding, bass, and skateboarding, I have to find small 10 minute gaps in my life to eat and sleep

I love anything outdoors..walking, birding, climbing, gardening , allotment ,etc
Travelling would feature heavily here.
Also badminton and tennis.

Inside...Drama (acting),meditation, and writing about experiences.
Also everyday things...seeing grandchild and children , and doing their gardens!!

Ditto here, i skate when i get the chance (broken metatarsal at the moment) and play bass (hardcore) in a couple of bands. I love making and seeing art, i mainly do illustration and printmaking. Other interests include politics, union activity (IWW), record collecting, trekking, cycling, vegan cuisine,

and lastly, flannel shirts.

Great thread and one I can't resist posting on - here goes.

Walking - this was what accidently got me into birding...I have a little tick list on that front - trig points, can't resist them !!

Photography - the "route" to birding via a chance meeting with Mike from Ebbw.

Music - Have always had a love of this from Classic Rock to Deep Soul....my collection is quite big as I dj'd for a number of years. Little known thing - I was sat in a room with Lisa Stansfield (and 4/5 others) when she found out she was number 1 in the charts with "all around the world" - anyone remember it?

Chess - been playing on & off since I was abt 12 - played in a county league for a number of years but work and other things has made me give it up in the last 18 months - strangest thing as a mediocre player I managed to be County Champion in 1999 !!

.....this thread will run on & on I'm sure. :t:

For the CV I always sneak in under interests "History of Polar exploration" which has never failed me in making an application stand out and getting an interview.

My work is birds, and work commitments mean I miss out on a favourite aspect which I'd love to take up again - viz migging. Haven't done it properly since '04 and get withdrawl symptoms every autumn.

Was banned from woodwork class at school but went back to evening classes a decade or so back and am proud to say not only can I knock a cabinet together now I still have six digits on each hand...

My latest fad is to have signed up for a bakery class. Nice buns anyone?
