Treecreeper today on the tree near the bird table. Been at Dungeness for most of the daylight hours today so I don't really know what's been about!

For one reason or another my New Year birding has been largely confined to the garden. Today, on and off, I ticked 22 species (the two in bold are year firsts):

Collared Dove, Magpie, Blackbird, Dunnock, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Robin, Hawfinch, Chaffinch, Starling, House Sparrow, Wood Pigeon, Nuthatch, Siskin, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Marsh Tit, Goldfinch, Jackdaw, Common Buzzard, Bullfinch and Long-tailed Tit.

very cold today but some good birds, small flock of Golden Plover over mid morning, lots of Tits, Goldcrest, Fieldfare & Redwing, G S Woodpecker, Gold/Green/Chaffinch.

6+ Hawfinch around all morning, nice views at lunchtime in brief bit of sunshine, calling a lot first thing, when they're feeding on Yew berries can hear the seeds cracking!

I saw a Goldcrest hanging around in one of my fir trees today. I have never seen one in my garden before.
Suzy, about 6 weeks ago neighbour admitted her cat had got one but I was surprised.

However this week we have seen a goldcrest ( 2 occasions) for first time in the front garden feeding in broom and St John's Wart shrubs. I am wondering if it is roosting in large pine tree as I have seen Wrens in there. Lovely little birds they are my current challenge to get a photo but maybe I am to ambitious.

Another first!

Had a pair of chaffinches this morning - Ive not seen them in the garden before.

A visit from a Pied Wag - for the first time in 2 years and he's just come back again, so may become a regular.

A feeding frenzy from a flock of Greenfinches

Robin, Blue tits, wren, collar dove and the starlings which have been hanging around for a few months here finally got into their old pattern of behavior and mobbed the suet mix!

Good garden day for what Ive been used to of late - and its only half over. (oh, I changed from black sunflower seeds to sunflower hearts today so maybe that's made a bit of difference)

Hey Deborah4,

You'd better watch out. We started to get chaffinches visiting, but now they are our most frequent visitor and numbers can go up to 70+. Be careful what you wish for.

Cheers, :hi:

my Hawfinch bait is only attracting increasing numbers of Wood Pigeon, Jays and Squirrels :C so looks like I'll have to give that up, was hoping some colder weather might work, at least 8 around today.

lots of Green & Goldfinch around, G S Woodpecker, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Blue/Great/Coal & L T Tit and a few Nuthatch.

:t: Hi Cathy
Wow! That'll make the neighbours envious - perhaps I should add "buy extra birdfood to the shopping list too" (and maybe add a peregrine or two to the garden wish list!) - What are they feeding on?
