my Hawfinch bait is only attracting increasing numbers of Wood Pigeon, Jays and Squirrels :C so looks like I'll have to give that up, was hoping some colder weather might work, at least 8 around today.

lots of Green & Goldfinch around, G S Woodpecker, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Blue/Great/Coal & L T Tit and a few Nuthatch.

 You get Kestrel, Woodpecker and Sparrowhawk in your garden?!! Sounds like an amazing garden (or field!) I'm so envious!

not quite a field :) but is a very long garden.

The Kestrel was sat in the Poplars at the bottom of the garden this morning, got several very noisy birds around at the mo, male Sparrowhawk makes regular attack runs on my feeders, Woodpecker is a daily visitor.

I would trade them all for a Hawfinch :bounce:

I was pleased to see a brambling feeding amongst the chaffinches below my seed feeder today. They were regular visitors two years ago but I didn't see any last year.

Also had a female bullfinch visiting over the past week. This is the time of year when they usually come and strip the flower buds off my ornamental cherry |:(| .

Wow! That'll make the neighbours envious - perhaps I should add "buy extra birdfood to the shopping list too" (and maybe add a peregrine or two to the garden wish list!) - What are they feeding on?

Hi there, they're feeding on whatever they can get thier little beaks on, sunflower hearts and seeds, wild bird seed mix, fat cakes, shredded suet, bread (dampened), and bagels (also dampened). We used to get quite a few during the summer, up to 15-20, but this winter it feels like we've got all the migrants visiting us. I did take a photo of them but it's too blurry to see much, I'll try and get a better one for you to see them.

Cheers, :hi:

Finches, about 10 to 15 cardinals when I first looked, morning doves and 1 well fed squirrel. Usually have a couple downy woodpeckers, haven't been spotted for over a week. Do they typically move around a lot?

Yet Another First (in 3 years)

This morning I was blessed with a very prolonged visit from a young Song Thrush o:) (does anyone know how to sex them, I can't tell the difference?). This was the first sighting in my garden since I moved in 3 years ago. I do hope it hangs around for the spring when all the snails in Sussex begin their long journey overnight to all my tenderly cared for plants! :eat: I have never used any form of slug or snail repellent so maybe this is good karma coming back to me!

I had repeated visits from the thrush all morning which was feeding alongside other groundfeeders (including f. blackbird) on suet mix and porridge oats

The pied wagtail also made repeated visits and appears to be becoming a regular

At the same time in Garden today - (half hour feeding frenzy)

Flock of about 15 starlings
Flock of 20 or so Greenfinches
Pair of Blackbirds
2 pairs of Blue Tits
Robin
Pied Wagtail
Song Thrush
2 Collar doves
Wren
Pair of Chaffinch

Not bad I think for a medium-size, mainly patio-ed garden in the middle of the City!

In between visits (cause of dispersal!)
1 aggressive wood pigeon
1 surreptitious cat, flushed out by me and fled

:hi: Hi Cathy

The chaffinches were making repeated visits again today - I have much the same food out as you posted, so hopefully they will become regulars. At the moment, its the Greenies that are eating the sunflower hearts like there's no tommorrow and costing me a small fortune. :'D

Hope you are enjoying the webcam. If it has been cloudy it can sometimes be tough to identify the birds. If you work with the camera you can brighten the picture up. I have a lot of cardinals, finches, occasional bluejay and usually mid to late morning the squirrels show up and eat well. On the suet feeder we have the downy woodpecker. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated as this is a new camera and we are learning. Thank you

We don't have a garden, just a backyard (in which the last bird was a Blackcap on Christmas Day), but over the road in a small park with a narrow stream that runs about 15 metres from our house.
In the past we've had mallard, grey heron and two different kingfishers, but on Tuesday, in torrential rain, a little egret dropped in briefly. It looked most odd in an urban park (on reflection no odder than the Squacco in Newton Abbot).

Caught in the act

This morning the number of bullfinches stripping the flower buds off my ornamental cherry has risen to 8. All but one of them are males. My brambling count has risen to 2 (both males).

Can't Stop
Just had a pleasant surprise when me and Menziebirder came across a Willow Tit passing through the garden!!! It was calling and showed fairly well but unforutnately moved on too fast to get my Dad on to it. A superb addition to the garden list nevertheless.

2 kids max please
New to garden feeding, always thought our 2 cats would be a problem, now wishing i'd started years ago.
A fat ball, peanut cage and seed mix feeder for a week now, hanging on the washing line, permanent table and pole plans well underway.

Blue, great and long tailed provide regular mini aerobatic displays.Chaffinches, robin, the odd daft starling and a female blackdird that headbutts the fat ball and picks any fallen pieces up from the lawn!A green woodpecker had a look from a neighbours tree but wasnt too impressed with my decidedly amateur efforts so far,he left with an avian shrug:)
Woodies mop up the spills as well, both moggies slink away when they come to the patio, they seem afraid, certainly none of the 'chattering' the smaller birds provoke when they come close to a window.

Best thing i've done in years, who needs a tv? |:d|

Yard Birds in Saint Joseph, Missouri

Nothing spectacular, but after a month of almost a complete absence of birds coming to our feeders here in Saint Joseph, today quite a few species were back!

Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1
Downy Woodpecker - 1
Black-capped Chickadee - 2
White-breasted Nuthatch - 2
American Robin - 25
European Starling - 25
Cedar Waxwing - 1
Dark-eyed Junco (slate-colored) 2
House Sparrow - 2

Maybe things will start "picking up" again!

I think I will head for Squaw Creek NWR, Mound City, Missouri, this morning and see "what is doing" up that way.

Good Birding to All,

Whilst waiting for the computer to boot up, I glanced out of the window to see a Bramling in the front garden! Grabbed camera and hopefully got a couple of shots before passing pedestrians frightened it away. Maybe it will show in the back where it's quieter and it will get chance to feed.
