Blue and Great Tits, Blackbirds, Collared Doves, Chaffinches, Goldfinches, Greenfinches, a Dunnock, two Jays and three Robins (together!) this morning.
We've had a pair of Robins together for a week now. I suppose they've paired up as before hand it was nothing but aggression.

Other than that just the usuals. The Tree Sparrows that were in amongst the House Sparrows a couple of weeks ago have gone else where which is a pity.

A First!

We had the usual assortment of red-winged blackbirds, northern cardinals, northern mockingbirds, grackles, and blue jays. We're starting to get more and more monk (quaker) parakeets and canary-winged parakeets, but today was a first for us! Without warning came a flock of (what I now know are) red-masked (or cherry-headed) parakeets (or conures), as you please. I now know that at least 2 colonies are resident in this county, but I've never seen them before... we were very excited!

Today's birds

This morning my bird visitors here in Ponteland, Northumberland were:
Blackbirds,Chaffinches, Dunnock, Spuggie, Magpie, Greenfinches, Goldfinches (7) , Long-tailed tits (2), Pigeons, Collared doves, Starlings, Robin and a male Sparrowhawk, which stayed for 20 minutes. Of course, as you can guess, all the rest disappeared :eek!: but returned later in the morning.

Grey Wagtail back

Spotted the grey wagtail in the garden today (was a lifer and a first time in garden for me 3 weeks ago - must be same one as before as I'm in the middle of the city - there can't be many around here. :bounce:

Pied wagtail again today (several visits) - nearly daily visitor now :t:

Other species today (well in the space of 15minutes)
Wren
blackbird
flock starling
flock greenfinch
chaffinch :t:
Great tit
Blue tit
Song thrush :t:
collar dove
ferral pigeon
herring gull (blooming thing gulfed down all the suet mix then flew off with a large chunk of bread :C )

Oh forgot to mention the squirrel (he was carrying a placard which said 'please don't shoot' ;) ) - I think we have civil war on our hands here.

:cat: Oh yes .. forgot the neighbours blasted cat ... well you can guess what happened then (actually no stray feathers but plenty of stray water from a saucepan)

2 Nuthatch today which haven't been visiting the feeders for a while, Hawfinch still around, Green Woodpecker has joined the Fieldfares on the wind falls, not sure what it's eating....

sat and watched the finches flying into roost at the the back of the garden and found over a dozen Brambling (rest were mostly Green/Chaffinch), kicked myself for not having the scope as it's the most I've seen here but hopefully will be back tomorrow.

Don't get to look much during the day, but today at dusk had 10 to 12 cardinals at the feeder. Nice to see the cardinals but don't seem to have anything else coming around right now. Plenty of feed but nothing else showing up.

8 Hawfinch today, 1 was feeding close to where I was working and eventually settled in a Cherry & stayed sat in full sun for 30+ mins so finally got some photos, got very close and didn't mind me moving around the tree to get a better position.

well worth the 4 wks I've been trying....

Saw an unusual thing yesterday. A grey squirrel came running down the length of the fence and when he had gone a wren flew up and sat on the fence. Then a second suirrel came running down and stopped abruptly in front of the wren. The wren turned to the squirrel, squared up to him and spread his wings. The squirrel backed off. Only when the wren flew away did the squirrel carry on down the fence. What a plucky little bird!

I'm glad you had such a great session Christine. Let's hope they do come back over the week-end. Our experience is that they seem to know when it's on and deliberately go camera-shy!!

Our male sparrowhawk flew over the lawn this morning and alighted on the fence. I watched him for a while, then suddenly he just swooped down into the little rhododendron bed where the bird table is.
I went into the garage and looked at of the back window. There he was sitting on a low branch, facing me. He stayed there for nearly an hour and a half. He is so gorgeous. I even made whistling noises to see if that what encourage him to fly.
I was afraid that the birds would all return and be "sitting ducks" if you'll pardon the pun!!

Eventually he swept across the lawn and disappeared over the fence into the garden next door. I did take several pics, but the light was really poor, the window is double-glazed and the angle wasn't brilliant - it will be ineteresting to see what comes out, when they are printed - sorry, no digital yet!!

Female Sparrowhawk chased one of the Blackbirds under the row of Conifers just as I had put extra food out and returned to the house to start my Garden Birdwatch !!!
I have had nothing in my garden since around 10.00am !! :C

Oh well, plenty of daylight left yet.

Had a few visitors today, sparrows, finches, downy woodpecker and cardinals. The squirrels came through and fed a bit. It was a cloudy day here today so a little harder to see them.
