Cameras change with new models every 18 months or so, but an "L" lens is, you might say, forever. Also,"L" lenses work with both full frame sensor cameras as well as APS-C size sensors (Canon 20D - Canon 50D). If you decide someday to upgrade or supplement your 50D with a full frame Canon your "L" lens will still be good.</blockquote>
