Where to go in July and when to go to Ouessant? (1 Viewer)

Cheers from Ouessant! The other tourists here would be probably quite confused to hear that I am not that thrilled about the weather - because it's absolutely splendid to feel and look at, with sunny days and 16 degrees around the clock, but it's a bit unpromising as far as rarities go, because the wind is consistently from NE. Overall, the island is quite birdless, with the exception of the sea around it We haven't found any target species yet, but we have seen a plenty of Gannets and Fulmars - and two Balearic Shearwaters, which, despite being one of the least numerous WP breeders, are the only relevant species we actually have seen already. Tomorrow we will try some really early seawatching - maybe the birds will like that more!

according to Méteo France the wind, for you, will be strong NNE (Bf 5-6) today and tomorrow and for the rest of the week will chanfge direction constantly but will 'only' be Bf 4 ...

We will be there in October but first a trip to the col d'Orgambideska and then on to Extramadura

How did it go Jan?

After cumulatively spending about 10 hours over 3 days staring at the sea, we found nothing of real note, the highlight being a single Black-legged Kittiwake. Then on the sailing back to the mainland, we saw 1 (one) tubenose - but it was an obvious Manx, so we got that after all! There were also Short-billed Common Dolphins, another lifer, and we saw them in jumps fully above the water, so we could see them extremely well. Overall on the trip we saw exactly 100 species, from which about 20 were year WP ticks, mostly because we never left Poland/Czech Republic during the year. Ouessant is really beautiful to visit, the landscape is so cute and some rocky coast is always nearby, but for some real birding action one probably has to come later in the season, or at least suck far less at seawatching than we do

Notable birds - for me - were Manx and Balearic Sherwaters, Kittiwake, Gannet, Fulmar, Red-billed Chough, Red-necked Phalarope, Shag, Rock Pipit, Cirl Bunting, Arctic Skua and the usual assortment of shorebirds: Curlew, Whimbrel, both Godwits, Sanderling, Dunlin, Little Stint, both Ringed plover, Golden Plover, Redshank, Greenshank, Common and Green Sandpiper, Ruff, Oystercatcher - note this list includes birds seen on some inland waters in Bretagne.
