BirdNET looks great BUT Anyone else having a problem with identifying common UK birds London area. Or what am I doing wrong ?

I am in Sth London wimbledon area : Looking at a Robin. Chirping away Close by. NO other background Sound is being recorded
Analyse : Usually comes up with unfamiliar birds guessing north american. Persistence give " European Robin" " HIghly uncertain "

No. Call me old fashioned but I do know a robin when I see one. And yes I am old fashioned in that smart phones are not my era so maybe something to do with settings
Ben through BNET settings : Tried " explore your area" Returns " Sorry cant show you a species list for your area "
No birds in SW19 ! Any clues please ?

This really seems like you don't have the proper location access to the app. When you go to "explore your area", does it show your ACTUAL location on the map (above the, presumably empty, species list)?

hello opiska thanks for help : going to explore your area > just says " sorry cant show etc" Nothing else no maps just that text. Reckon your right I dont have a location set up somehow. But nothing in settings offers anywhere to do that . Confess again of advancing years. probably smart phone incompetence . Samsung android. If I tap maps in apps It shows my location ? Sorry to be dumbo ,,, MsM

If the location works in other apps, maybe you did not give BirdNet the permission to access your location. Or maybe you even had, but on the new Android permissions now revert after some inactivity - it's a new feature, not sure if relevant here, nobody has much experience with it yet. Anyway, you can try to go to Settings -> Location -> App Access to location (the exact names can vary if you have non-stock Android, which a Samsung phone may have) and check whether BirdNet is listed in Allowed or Denied. If it's in Denied, click on it and allow it.
