I saw this bird today on the southern tip of Plum Island, Newbury, Massachusetts. Can you tell me what it is and how you arrived at your conclusion?

Ditto to Dunlin - longer bill than other Calidris waders, while the bill being curved down excludes other genera of waders like Tringa species.

Thank you both; I would have said Dunlin if it had been slouched as usual but this was far more erect than normal; it looked taller than usual
