Now who's the clairvoyant? I just rang up all the people I've known in my life and asked them if any of them knew you. Notta one. Heck, some didn't even remember me! Okay, so one woman did remember that I dipped her pigtails in the inkwell in 3rd grade. ;) I went out this morning at 9 a.m. to feed the squirrels and birds sunflower seeds and peanuts in my backyard, taking a broom with me to clear spots on the ground since we had three inches of snow last night, and then I headed across the street to feed the squirrels and birds in the park. After doing that, I spent an hour trying to coax Big Red to come down from her high perch and eat her "chickie." She usually only takes 10-15 minutes, sometimes longer if it's dim outside due to cloud cover, but it was difficult this morning because it's Saturday and parents and their kids were playing in the snow, pushing their kids on sleighs and making snowmen. While waiting for Big Red to come down, I went across the street to feed Gray Kitty, a feral cat, and the squirrels and birds in my neighbor's yard where the cat stays (under their shed). I've tried to trap her to give her to P..A.W.S., but no luck. I then went back over the park to check on Big Red and brought some wood chips from the park to the family building the snowman to use as a mouth, and I talked to the father for awhile before picking up the "chickie' dish (can't leave it in case people come into the park with their dogs), and then went inside to feed my cats breakfast. After feeding them, I stuck my head out the front door and saw that the park was deserted, so heated up the "chickie" again and I went back out to feed Big FRed, who after some loud screeching to let other hawks know she is Queen of the Park, finally came down to eat. When she was nearly finished (took a while, I gave her a big, raw turkey leg), I trudged through the snow across the park to the other side of the street and waited for her to fly across (she flies only about 2 ft. from the ground). I was standing there in case I needed to stop a car since the treeline that hugs the park blocks the driver's view and a car would run right into her. When it was clear, I waved her across the street, where she flew up to her usual perch in a tree to clean her talons and her beak. I took her photo, said goodbye, and then I finally went inside and ate my breakfast at 11:15 a.m. (Btw, I have all this on video in case you think I'm BSing). I spent most of my morning feeding local wildlife, so even if I am the misanthrope you say I am, at least I'm I'm nice to cats, squirrels and birds. o:) Brock
