Which Tripod for Televid 82 APO scope? (1 Viewer)

Suggestions on a tripod for my Leica Televid 82 APO scope?
I just bought a Vortex Optics Summit Carbon II Tripod to try to lighten my load and the Televid 82 scope won't stay attached as the scope is too heavy, awkward. The whole tripod comes unscrewed when I'm walking with the scope attached. It doesn't have a locking lever quick release like my old Vortex tripod and the scope comes unscrewed from the mounting plate while I'm walking with scope attached. The knob that tightens up the height extender won't stay tight, and neither will the arm lever. I wanted to get a lighter weight tripod than the older model heavy Vortex tripods I normally use but need a stronger tripod to handle the Leica Televid 82 than the Summit Carbon.
Plus Vortex has discontinued the older model Vortex tripod and I worry the newer model Vortexs are not sturdy enough either as they look like the light weight Vortex Optics Summit Carbon II.

Thank you!!

I have no personal experience of this set up but there appear to be three distinct issues here
  • The tripod
  • The tripod head
  • the mounting of the scope to the head.
The tripod itself is rated to 22lbs so should be sturdy enough to take the scope on weight alone , but cant comment on the stability

The head you dont mention but is vey important as part of the set up and may be part of the issue. It appears that there are other faults with the head extender etc that is independent of the legs. If it is all rated at 22lbs as they advertise there shouldn't be an issue.

The mounting of the scope to the head is similar to a problem I had with my Leica scope (but not a brand issue). Using normal plumbers PTE thread tape solved this and I have had many years of no issues.

Thank you! I had no idea how complicated tripods are

What tripods are birders with Leica Televid 82 APO scopes using as I need a new tripod.

Thank you!
