Hello everyone,

This image of a White-rumped Munia was taken in June 2015 in Kolkata, West Bengal in the eastern part of India. There were a few (6-7) WRM among a large flock of Scaly-breasted Munias feeding on grass/ sedge seeds in a marshy patch within an urban settlement.

This image is also on the Oriental Bird Image database where it is identified as Lonchura striata striata/acuticauda .

I am looking for some help. How does one differentiate ssp straita and ssp acuticauda ?

The image on Opus is apparently, ssp striata

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for starting this thread Arijit.

However, I thought that Neil's pictures were subspecies swinhoei, as they were taken in Hong Kong?
