Like the people who use the home made electronic devices to detect spirits. Does anyone on here ever wear a tinfoil hat while looking through your binoculars ? I believe mine helps to clarify the image,:-O

Not sure about spirits, but the Snowden disclosures have made the tinfoil hat brigade seem prescient. Wonder what the membership requirements are.

Tinfoil is rather hard to come by, these days.

Most of us make do with aluminum foil, and I personally favor the Reynolds brand.

Always put the shiny side out, for maximum benefit.

Aluminium foil hats are so yesterday...

Nowadays we use vinyl sheets with dielectric coating, that way THEY can only read 0,001% of our thoughts.

The NSA sensors only detect useful thoughts, hence the percentage.

LOL!!! o:)

Rumour has it that the 'significant event' detector set up to monitor BF posts flat-lined years ago and hasn't even flickered ever since..................:eek!:

I think many people buy the high end expensive binoculars for the quality, and some are of high quality but not perfect either there is no German or Austrian binocular that is 100 % perfect in everyway. And none of them are worth what they are asking for them, good yes but not $2,000 plus worth. I read many complaints about Leica's focusers are gritty and sluggish and porr repair and customer service, but people buy them on false reputation and marketing. basically buying a Leica Ultravid is like buying a car that is a lemon and you know it but you buy it anyway because someone said they are the best in their opinion. You are buying on a false presumption you will have the best while it is just average, The problem with Leica at least is their poor focus design going grease less or no oil, using cheap plastic Teflon discs which eventually will wear out faster from friction or cracking , pure junk and cheap if you ask me. That alone I would never buy a Leica binocular , $2,000 and more for what ? a lemon. No Thanks, I bought and tried out many binoculars including owning and selling a Leica Ultravid 10x32 BR for the gritty focuser and chromatic aberration and flare that I have not experienced with even cheaper binoculars. The best bang for your buck in quality optics are Kowa Genesis XD 8x33, 10x33, at around $1,160 on google or Zeiss Victory FL 8x32 or 10x32 if you can find them on sale for $1,699 or less. The Kowa BD series are very good too and some Nikon binoculars even Vortex are not bad either. But Leica in particular are not worth the price, even some Swarovski models I heard people complaining about the focusers but I do no remember what models. At least the Zeiss FL has a good smooth focus wheel as do the Kowa Genesis midsize and both have nice views. I know many binocular snobs will bash me on me criticizing Leica but I got the facts from these forums and on binocular websites I did not make it up, and the other facts were of me using or owning these binoculars. I do not see CA in the Kowa Genesis XD or the Zeiss FL , and both give a nice pleasant view clean crisp neutral colors and no problems to my eyes, I do not look rolling ball and other miniscule crap like that and nit pick a binocular. I want a nice view what I can see and what I am looking at and no more than that . And the Kowa Genesis and Zeiss FL midsize do that for me. I also like the Zeiss lifetime transferable warranty it says a lot about the company backing up their product. While Leica like a car once you drive it off the lot it is used and only a 10 year warranty if you buy it used. Leica's look nice on the outside but the prom is the inside design especially the focuser, I want gears not Teflon plastic discs on a $2,000 plus investment which will eventually fail. Do not listen to binocular snobs bashing Kowa either especially the Genesis midsize it really is a excellent and underrated binocular ,they are just jealous it costs less with the same if not better optical performance. There are many other mid priced binoculars that are very good too try them out before you buy and make your own choice. I personally would not buy Leica but that is from my experience owning one they are not worth the price per performance or value.

Some may, most don't. Logic should tell you that a patty off of a dollar hamburger doesn't taste anything close to the best filet mignon. If someone tells me it does, then we will disagree, but in a more civil manor from now on.;)

Some people buy $2500.00 binoculars so they have something to rant about.:smoke:

Catmouse, post 134,
I am impressed with your solid research of the quality of Leica binoculars. I asked around at some large binocular suppliers in The Netherlands and they do not confirm your research data. In the contrary: the Leica's are generally considered (based on their repair statistics) among the stongest and well made instruments which very little repair problems certainly as far as the focussing system is concerned. Furthermore they consider the Leica designs as very attractive and their only wish is that Leica would be more innovative with regard to new models although the Leica RF with Perger prisms was really innovative and a breakthrough.
And your philisophy about the 2000 dollar price range as completely unacceptable: I can understand that from the point of view of the painlevel of ones wallet, but if you consider the costs involved in design, material, infrastucture, labour, long term service and maintaining a supply of parts and sufficient qualified design, contruction and repair persons (European salaries are very much higher than Chinese ones) these prices are not so strange. A different question is of course is: are you willing to pay these prices and that same question is valid also for other expensive materials like high quality food, clothing, cars, boats, hunting material, fishermans equipment etc. etc. So that is almost a philisophical question which we can only answer ourselves.
As I already stated before: an instrument of quality is a joy forever and I personally am prepared to pay for it, even if it hurts sometimes my wallet.
Gijs
