Why would you buy a Zeiss HT over an SF? (1 Viewer)

If we go off single reports of cracked bridges etc., then we have to conclude that most Swaro focussers will fail catastrophically right out of the box. I read it here - it must be true.

Yes, and I have heard horror stories from reliable sources of physical failures of other major brands but I haven't posted them up because they are meaningless in the face of thousands of bins sold and so few reports of these issues.

If you drop any binocular from a distance onto a hard floor some damage is likely in my estimation.

High North disappeared.

Yes and thats a shame because he had some nice stories to tell about birding near the north cape.

Yes, I was wondering what happened to High North. He had some interesting stories. High North if your reading this come back to Bird Forum. He really liked his SF even though he had a few mishaps with it.

HighNorth have been around, just not in the binocular forum. His last activity date is Feb 28, 2016. Here is his latest post (number 14) ......

Maybe he has achieved binocular equilibrium and does not want to disturb his current state by venturing here! :cat:

Zeiss use a magnesium alloy that contains spider silk in the SF,
so it's stronger than it looks
...when dropped it will just flex a bit
and return to the original state...

SF does actually mean "Spider Flexible"

But don't tell Swarovski about this, it's top-secret.
;)

That's all I had to hear, I ordered my SF 10x42 the other day :king:,,,should arrive Monday. Can't wait to compare them to my other alpha's and see what all the hubba-bubba is about.

I'd like to thank all the members for their reviews, and especially Lee for his thoughtful advice and help :t:

I have a 3 pair of Zeiss and 2 Swaros in bins, I did not try the HT's...only because I got a great deal on the SF's new from a Zeiss dealer.

Let us know how you like the SF's. Out of curiosity how much did you get the 10x42 SF's for?

Will do, I got them for $1950 shipped to my home...he just got brand new versions from Germany....I waited 2 weeks for the new batch o:D
Nice price. Also, nice that you got a brand new batch. I think Zeiss has all the bugs ironed out of the new SF's. The 10x42 SF pair I looked at at Cabella's were perfect. I could find nothing wrong with them.
