Will Downy Woodpecker hurt my tree? (1 Viewer)

I have a health Birch in my yard where I removed a large limb a few years.

This year Downys are digging a home into the remaining knob of the old limb.

Is this any danger to my tree? I have a small city lot with very few trees, so I want to protect the tree, but if there is no danger it is very cool to have the Downys living outside my window.

I do not think that the Downy Woodpecker will cause any problem to the tree.

I doubt that they'll harm the tree. They tend just to hammer away at bits that are already dead or diseased.

They will NOT hurt the tree. They can't even put a dent in my Trumpetcreeper Vine...much less a tree. Enjoy the Downies and your tree.
