Wind farms (1 Viewer)

yes, just saw it Graham

guess what? he wasn't a scientist!!! DOH!

And Professor Lawton likened those anti global warmers to people denying a link bewteen smoking and cancer

even Jon Snow seemed to be holding back the chuckles

you do make some good arguments now and again but you have to pick them or it looks like a blanket obession against wind farms...

Obsession? Look who's talking! - A global warmer!

There are two obsessions with you, Tim:

1) Global warming.
2) Windfarms as being a solution.

I'll be off the Net fot a while.

hilarious. Global Warmer is an insult now. :'D

1) not an obsession Mark, notice i don't post every day, just now and again and i post a lot about BIRDS man too. I post to counteract your dangerous twaddle. When i don't, these threads die off a bit apart from about three of you speaking to yourselves. I should learn from that.. o:D

2) they are

i bet 'they' are monitoring your postings too.... prepare to be disappeared.

"Water contamination "

Interesting stuff Mark.
It certainly gives the lie to the doctrine that wind farms can " simply be taken down & no harm done " at some point in the future.

However-you're forgetting the "big picture", and "expert opinion" Mark. I've tried to assimilate the received wisdom, & I think it goes something like this :-

*Global Warming has been caused by The Oil Industry/People who don't switch the lights off/people who drive SUVs/Private enterprise/People who don't use buses/people who won't compost properly/most Americans/George Bush particularly/people who make frivolous long-haul flights ( except birders)/-ie-everyone else
*Thou shalt "believe" ( note the quasi-religious wording) in anthropomorphic Global Warming, or be excommunicated.
*Thou shalt not cop out by "believing" ( I think they mean accepting ) Global Warming , but doubting it's cause.
*Global Warming will kill everyone, and everything on the planet very very soon.
*Wind Farms will stop this happening.
*Wind Turbines are clean/white/green/nice.
*No other technology should be discussed, because we only have time to build wind farms.
*Lots of man-made structures kill birds, therefore it's OK for wind turbines to do it.
*Lots of industrial accidents/oil tanker spills etc. etc, pollute the environment therefore it's OK for wind turbines to do it.
*Since Wind Farms will stop all pollution of the atmosphere, any damage they cause to the environment is acceptable.
*People who oppose wind farms fall into one of the following categories-NIMBYS/Cloth heads living in the country/posh gits living in the country/members of the Countryside Alliance/Members of the Conservative Party/Nuclear power executives/stupid people/Noel Edmonds.
All of these people should be locked up-at least until all the Wind Farms have been built.
*The above people are only trying to stop windfarms being built , because they're houses are where the wind farms should be. In general these places are"bare" hillsides/islands a long way away/places in Scotland & Wales/Places which aren't Norfolk or Indonesia.-ie worthless places.
*All of these things have been revealed by "the vast majority of the world's scientists", and so must be right.

Welll I think that's the guts of it....but I'm still learning.

Could we have a moratorium of posts of more than three sentences please? Highly interesting thread, but all the quotes and psuedo-facts were dealt with in the first couple of pages, so let's cut the repeats and just leave the slogging-it-out sentences for our amusement.

I offer 3 to 1 odds on Mr A taking the crown!

2 of my pet peeves!

It is a self-reinforcing set of rules. Scientists can snap their fingers and say "We scientists have decided that the scientific method (ie reproducible, controlled labratory experiments) is not needed for causes we believe in, rather than can prove, and since we are the scientists - we get to decide what is scientific or not!"

Then that opens the door for fellow believers to say "Gee, a lot of scientists say it is a scientific fact - so it must be true!"

What a bunch of BS! I would respect them more if they just admitted it - they don't like industrialization and they believe that humans are causing this global warming trend - unlike the thousands of climate cycles that have happened for millions of years.

Would the finger-pointing, doomsdayer, "the sky is falling" global warmers still blame industrialization for global warming if civilization started a mere 10,000 years sooner? I'm guessing yes. They would never know that the climate was simply cycling out of the ice-age and into another warming period. Just like we can't know it now.

you are having me on right?

why don't YOU research the gazillions of pages published on this. Try a google.

you obviously (self confessedly) are a little unaware of the research in this area.

The Tyndall Centre at UEA just down the road from me does rather a lot.

Terry

you reckon scientists 'fix' their results cos they don't like industrialisation?

this thread is becoming a refuge for extreme weirdness. This would make the scientists guffaw for days, seriously!

you think Nature would publish stuff like that?

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

get real

No, I am not having you on.

Yes, I have read a lot of reports that suggest that human activity is causing GW but they never actually prove it. I could suggest that the CIA shot JFK but I would have a job on my hands proving it.

If the scientists want western civilisation to change its ways then they have got to come up with better evidence than ifs, buts, and maybes.

I can't believe that post by Mr Nolley

that's what we're up against

that's what is behind some of these people's posts. Scientists don't like industrialisation.... so they manage to fix all the emirical evidence, get it peer reviewed and published all without an overt conspiracy?

what a warped/distorted idea of the scientific world there is on this forum

it's downright scary that people can think that is the case. There seem to be one too many conspiracy theorists here....
