Winterwatch 2025 (1 Viewer)

Any thoughts about where the next series of Springwatch will be located?

With the current bird flu scare I imagine the team is working out how to pivot from mainly birds to mainly other wildlife groups at whatever location and under whatever regulations apply in a few months time.

They must be running out of single locations in the UK with a good spread of such groups though. I'd like to see them go European - Gibraltar might be a decent option.

Would love to see some of the cetaceans and fish mentioned from the coast somewhere, tried for dolphins once in wales and was unsuccessful.

I've done may hundreds of hours seawatching in southern England and only seen a few cetaceans, the Purbeck coast was always relatively reliable but still needed the hours putting in, also seen tuna off Durlston once only , in contrast whenever I've been to Ireland and looked at the sea even for a quick glance I seem to have seen a cetacean each time!

Springwatch is a very demanding production. They need about two football pitches worth of secure-ish hard standing to set-up all the production vehicles. The range of on site habitats need to be sufficient to get a mix of live wildlife.

I'd actually like to see them go somewhere in Europe too, for example northern Spain (wolves, bears, lots of raptors, sealife). Gibraltar would be great too, but I can imagine if they went outside the UK people would moan that it's no longer about British species. But it would be great to get extensive footage over a two week period of animals and plants that we don't see here.

Failing that, perhaps Islay would be a good shout. I think they went to Northern Ireland one year and it would be nice for them to go back there as it hasn't featured very often, especially as they could probably include some locations in Ireland too, for example cetaceans in the south-west.

At the risk of dreaming too much and money was no object (although I know in reality budgets are tight), perhaps it could be truly international. They could even do a Springwatch from the southern hemisphere during our winter - South Africa anyone?

Off the west coast of Skye is good for Orcas - I seen them there several times.
