Woodpecker - Brazil, Mato Grosso, Passo de Lontra, Pantanal Jungle Lodge (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

A member of our (Dutch) birding club made a trip to South America, with a quick visit to Argentina, but mainly to Brazil. I volunteered to try to identify the species he photographed. For around 75 of them this was succesful, but of course there are a few for which I’m not so sure. So I hope to find some help here!

The first one is this woodpecker. It was photographed in the Pantanal Jungle Lodge area, Passo de Lontra, Mato Grosso, Brazil, on Sep. 18, 2024. I think it might be a Little Woodpecker / Veniliornis passerinus, but confirmation would be welcome. Of course, if you disagree, your answer would be very welcome too!

Regards,
Peter

Thank you The Fern for the confirmation! At the photo from above I didn't see any yellow between the red and the green, so that made me think that it might be a Little Woodpecker. But in my Field Guide for the Birds of Brazil the face seemed to be much darker than at the photo, that made me doubt a bit.

Regards,
Peter
