Chris Packham Talk The talk last night at the Parr Hall was very well supported and I would like to thank any members of the forum who went. The event will have generated a considerable amount for the WECG which I can assure you that this will be put to good use. Last year saw major improvements to the resereve that were aimed at the members of the group, with the New John Morgan Hide and our new Loo. We did however do a lot of work clearing willow and making some runs in the reed bed especially in front of the old scaffold hide, which I think may be a good spot to see BNG a bit closer. I have built 2 feeding stations at the New Hide which hopefully has helped the birds in this cold winter. Chris gave a very good talk last night which I found more interesting than I had expected. He talked about photos he had taken all over the world, many of which he was critical of. He goes to great lenghts to get a photo that he has sometimes sketched out before he goes and he is prepared to manipulate an image to get the result he wanted, but if you do that you need to be honest about it. He included quite a few humerous anecdotes but also hit on some more serious things regarding the conservation of some endangared species. He was very generous in his praise for the WECG and how it was run by a group of dedicated but aged volounteers and expanded upon the point that there are not enough young people coming through to take over not just WECG work but the work of people like himself, most of whom are not well known personalites. No 3 bed is fairly quiet at the moment but BNG shopuld be back c20 march and hopefully we will have a better year than last. We have already started our Mink control programme with some success but they are much more numerous than I had ever realised. Alan
