Nice one Keith & Snow Bunting,

Great to see shots of the Clouded Yellows....something I was unable to do as the one I had at Grimley just wasn't settling

Support for the Trench Wood Chalkhill Blue becoming an official record might gain strength with the news that six have been seen in Leicestershire this week, the first in sixty years.

Hi Des,

Good news.

I read on a website yesterday of 'recent' records of CHB's from Broadway Hill (and Small Blues also). However, the website in question hasn't been updated since 2005. Do you know when the most recent previous officially accepted record for CHB was? (and Small Blue)?

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave. The Chalkhill Blue has not bred for definite since 1979 when a small colony was discovered at an undisclosed site. Within the year a farmer had dug up the land and that was the end of the colony. Small Blue is considered to be extinct, although there have been a number of rumours over the years of a colony on the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border.

With such an apparent population explosion in the Cotswolds and elsewhere this year, there seems to be a good chance of them spreading (according to someone who knows these things ). Lets hope they find habitat and conditions to propagate any dispersal, would be fantastic to have them breeding back in the county.

I have just had confirmation that a Chalkhill Blue was photographed at Beoley near Redditch early last week. I have seen the image and been in contact with the photographer. Further confirmation that the very large numbers seen at known sites outside Worcestershire have been exploring further afield.

Purple Hairstreak

Found a new colony of Purple Hairstreak on my patch today. These are almost certainly under recorded in general, difficult to winkle out of the oak canopy/ leaves ( making record shots difficult, but there is one on my blog )
Still, nice to add a new record

Never mind Chalkhill Blues, it was just nice to come across a few Blues of any discription locally today ! - Been in very short supply this year. ( Holly Blue pic. attached. )

I had 2 Clouded Yellows chasing over the fields in the Stone area of my local patch this evening, with one even settling for a while giving great views!

Hi Keith,
I believe the nearest High Brown Fritillary colony to Fackenham is South Wales and there is only 1 colony in wales.

I spoke to TMH yesterday and he let me know that he had observed 6 Clouded Yellow butterflies at Lineholt that morning.

Nice one Terry
