Are the waxwings in Batley at Ikea, then? My girlfriend loves Ikea, if they're still around at the weekend I may just be able persuade her to give me a lift ;)

The waxwings are a couple of hundred metres from Ikea on Oakwell Way (WF17 9LU if you have satnav) usually opposite the entrance to Mars Petfoods (big chimney) on Rowan trees> Loves the pink- berried trees (Sorbus hupehensis, Pink Pagoda I think for those gardeners amongst you). Good luck

Did anyone else see any Pink-Footed Geese on the move today, I saw about 100 over East Hull mid morning

May have had them over Wetherby at about 06:15 this morning. Had just got up bleary-eyed taking my daughter to the bus. Heard geese overhead, assumed it was the Greylags dropping into Losh (and may well have been but I don't normally hear them). I didn't really pay much attention to the call.

Given today's events they were probably Pink-feet.

Thanks for the info on the Bewick's. Called into North Duffield this afternoon (before I checked this forum for advice) and couldn't belive how much water there was.
Only had Mute Swans, but did watch a Water Vole feeding, also good numbers of Ruff and Dunlin.
Drove up to Bank Island and had Buzzard over the road and 3 Bullfinch. Will return to North Duffield with my new information as soon as I can.

BTW had good numbers of Pinkfoot over Brid this AM.

How about this for a garden record? Only a fleeting glimpse but a Great White Egret has just flown over our house (birstall) heading West.

Will look out for it dropping in somewhere near by.

I can confirm the Waxwings (2) are still present today. Took some poor shots in gloomy windy weather. Going again tomorrow lunch in hopefully better conditions. Still only two, but I defo saw three on Friday. May be the original one is the one that has left - i.e. 3-1=2.

Thanks Mike. If get you the chance you must visit. At one point the buntings walked through my tripod legs.

Marcus, enjoyed the blog. Your shots are excellent. The shots of Elberry cove take me back to when I watched my brother-in-law fish of their a couple of years ago - lovely little spot.

The other thing that surprised me is the size of the crowd still at Cley.

I'm down to Norfolk again on the 13th and 14th and was hoping for some decent shots of the WCS and the buntings without the crowds. It's mid-week but half-term so we'll see. The best thing is the petrol and accomodation are paid for by my wife's work - can't be bad!

I managed a few digi-scoped shots on Sunday, was windy, and the light on my side, but the wind wasn't, so face on views only, but musn't grumble. You could actually sex them if you got close enough, I was told this by a guy there, that used to breed them...

You wont be able to digiscope the bunting, but you will get some amazing video footage I am sure. Take some seed as one of the guys kept seeding the area when I was there and they came in straight after.

You will have a great time, and if the GGshrike is still at Roydon it is well worth the stop.

Back to Yorkshire birding for me for the forseable.
