Cheers Peter. I will be in Pontefract that Saturday so I'll go via the old A1 and the Knottingley Road.
Went down Swilly to pay my subs today, not much about. Loads of curlew on Astley Lake, along with gadwall and tufted ducks. Couldn't hang about though.

Marcus - I'm speechless! Those photos are superb. I bet professionals are quaking in their shoes - or are you a professional?! Love the Barden Moor photo. But the waxwings are something else. Me & Bob went to the ones at Burnley last Saturday - had super views of them quite close but..... it was our (his, seeing as he took them) first go at digiscoping. What rubbish! Photos in a circle (vignetting?). And this with a Kowa 883 scope. The camera is a Samsung which the guy at In Focus sold us - plus attachment of course. And we don't have to use the camera button to take a photo so there shouldn't be any blurring - there's a 'cord' thing to press. Really must read the handbook before we try again.

Hope we run into you one day soon on a trip. Should be going on the Yorkshire trip but it's too far really - the Lancashire trips are closer I'm afraid. I'm waiting for another Blacktoft or Potteric. But the last thing you'll be wanting on a birding trip is giving a lesson to a 'know nothing'.

..... Talking about Potteric - wonder if we might bump into Trev if we went there . He's into photography isn't he?.................

Looking at the kite pictures on Marcus's blog, I reckon good enough for photo of the week on Birdguides. Easily as good if not better than some in the past.

Thanks to all who have viewed the blog lately. Some of the comments are really flattering and I am not sure they are all deserved! I really have been lucky to get some of the images, but I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go.

Thanks for looking.

Still a drake smew on I believe village bay, and LS Woodpecker still down Cut at Fairburnings today.

By the way - there was over 100 siskin in Haw wood near Anglers CP/Wintersett on sunday (2/2/08) plus a few lesser redpolls.

Happy birding.

Jackpot!

Had a stroke of luck yesterday as I was going into my local park. A Kestrel landed on a chimney and then started scanning the gardens. It started to get its back up and looked really alert, then it dived straight into one of the back gardens (it disappeared from view) then flew back up on to another chimney with a mouse in its talons. It looked at me to strike a quick pose, then devoured the mouse in one and flew off.
Pics Attached.
Also a couple more shots from yesterday...

Hi Guy's, Me and Kempy 83 are looking at going out for most of tomorrow. We live in Hull and have transport. I'm thinking... Potteric carr, Tophill Low, Or, Filey, Forge Valley and Wykeham area. Anyone else got idea's because we would like to maybe try somewhere new... We've been to all the places mentioned.
Cheers.

Just been on the phone with my friend from Tophill, there are a pair of Brambling on the feeders there, also a Water Rail coming out into the open (fairly regularly) to feed offering fairly good photo opportunities apparently, also Smew there too i think. May be nice if the weather is good over the weekend...

Cheers

Cheers for the info Andy. Might have a day there tomorrow. We went there today. Didn't get any of the birds mentioned but we literally had to run round due to lack of time...
Less than 2 hours.
Cheers.
