Willow tit isnt extinct in the wolds as my mum gets them on her feeder throughout the winter just north of Driffield. A quick drop in at North Cave provided a site tick in the form of 3 Goosander, a male and 2 redheads loafing on the LRP islands. Also 4 intermedius Lesser Black-backs (2 1st-w, 1 2nd-w and an adult) were nice with a single 1st-w argentatus Herring and a couple of 1st-w Great Black-backs. I couldn't see any Avocets yet although they are supposed to be about.

They are usually on and off early in spring, give it a week or 2 and the place will be crawling. I did think i had an early LRP in the gloom on for it to morph into a pied wag. Only a fortnight to go!

Thanks Graham and Steve for clearing that up for me. Now it's getting lighter in the evenings I could pop down after work if the weather is ok. Keith, it's radar AND a sixth sense I think they have. Hoping the twite stick around a while longer as I keep missing them too, I know the area where to look though.
Chris.

they're some of the last then. They're gone from Holderness, North Humberside and are being replaced by Marsh Tit on the Wolds. Still quite a few out Donny and York way though.

Tried again tonight and couldn't find them. A distant Short-eared Owl from the causeway. On Astley a 1st w. Glauc but no Icelands tonight.

I nearly crashed my van today when I saw a large falcon out of the corner of my eye. Wasn't sure of the species but it didn't look like Peregrine. I soon realised some numpty was flying his pet. The nearby BH Gulls didn't look too happy.

No less than 63 Corn Buntings recorded at the back of Filey Dams over the last couple of days. Might take a look tomorrow if I get chance.

Taiga or Tundra

What's going on at Hornsea Mere, does anybody know?

Taiga or Tundra or two bird theory?

I thought the photo of the bird at East Park suggested Tundra, based on short neck and mostly dark bill, but neck could be trick of the angle based on one shot.

I need a better Taiga for Yorkshire than my Fairburn bird of a few years back, but have seen good Tundras in Yorks. so need to know if I'm grabbing the car keys or not.

I was happy to tick the East Park bird as Tundra, both by the photos and in the flesh. However, I have absolutely no other experience with real life Bean Goose so I am interested to know what others think.

The East Park pictures look good for Tundra Bean - would help to see them next to Greylags or Pink-feet...
