Not sure about the res itself. It's pretty underwatched but lesser whitethroat and arctic tern are potentials. I have had mandarin there recently too.

If you are mobile visit Eccup Whin here, there are blackcap and summer warblers singing their hearts out. Also a chance of redsatart, and if you look over the stome wall there could be wheatear and whinchat in the fields.

The best view of the kites can be seen in the afternoon form north Harewood here Park at the bend where is says 33 on this map. If you walk to the wharf you will also score grey wag and there sand martins on the left.

Let me know if you need aymore info. good luck

Just south of 73 on this map is another excellent spot for Kites. Agree with Marcus about Eccup Whin. I haven't been to the res for a few weeks but Common Sand and Grey Wag should be at the Dam end, and I've had Yellow Wags there around this time of year.

So assuming a scrum of khaki, beards and optics at Flamborough over the weekend, what else will be found? Bluethroat, Wryneck or something "bigger"?

I'm a one man scrum of khaki, beards and optics and I am likely to defy the docs tomorrow so should see a few of you twitcherising the duck.

I predict a sketchy distant probable Long-tailed Skua, a couple of Marsh Sands, a Monty's over and a twitchable Serin. Watch how wrong I prove to be.

Eccup

A bit off topic but i am going on a trip to eccup res on sunday apart from the kites what is about there anyone know thanks ;)

Hi Peter

If youve got an OS map I would also include the circularish walk uptowards the Emmerdale village/Harewood from near the water (treatments?) place. The Kites particularly like to fly low over the Dingles pig pens next to the path.........!(seriously). There is plenty of opportunity for various warblers and buntings round here, plus red-legged partridge in small numbers and occasional grey.

Walking up the road towards the water (treatments?) place there is a pond over the hedge to the left - Ive had various waders on there in the past - curlew, redshank, oystercatcher etc but I feel something special could pop in their at some point.

A walk round the reservoir will give you goldcrest, treecreeper, woodpeckers, Jay and always a chance of a rare grebe on the water (more so in winter).

There used to be a good number of Tree sparrows by the farm house (where alot of people park) but these seem to have greatly dwindled in the last few years.

Hope you have a good day

John

Lesser Whitethroat singing on J27 today (48 YTD), now 4 singing Blackcap, plenty of other stuff to see.

Probably hopped over a fence but if anyone is counting Red Crested Pochard on their year list theres one on the lake at Batley Park, looks like it has a touch of leucism. Also in Batley, Mistle thrush nesting in the Stop light, pedestrian crossing outside the Salvation Army.

Hi John
Not as many as I expected, but as I & Tracy got there @ around 08:00, it flew off south, and was re-found around 11:00 app, I was wearing mostly blue & well shaven, Lawts was there since first light & few other mates/birders, all in all +50, but comings and goings make the math difficult. A fine day!
