Met Graham at Swine Moor at 12ish nursing severe hangover. Plenty of lesser whitethroat on site with greenshank, wood sanpiper and the legs in spanking sum plum. Three swift over and five whimbrel also showing. The Jack Snipe was possibly one of the best picks I have been present to, and good to get one on the the deck. The guy admitted 'he's got a thing for snipe'.

Onto Flam for the King and it showed okish. Not as close as some judging by the birdguides photo's but we were chuffed. As I was leaving a small game bird flew across my path and out to sea. It was a quail! Remarkably my first Yorkshire Quail had been down the road at Bempton some ten years ago.

I managed to get home without getting onto too much trouble but still with a bad headache.

Not much to add to 5 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Wood Sand, 2 Greenshank, 3 Swift, a Jack Snipe, a Lesser Yellowlegs, a King Eider, and all the usual seabirds, except,...

Hoopoe, 25 Yellow Wagtail inc an 'odd' one (description @ http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=112631), 2 Woodcock and a 'xylophoning' Tawny Owl.

When will I next get three lifers in a day in Yorkshire or a day-list as good as that?

Graham

Any of the pics any good, Marcus?

Three lifers and two birders not at 100%. Very good going. I can't even stand upright with a bad hangover, hope you've not aggravated whatever you were recovering from Graham. I'm going over to Blacktoft tomorrow, haven't been for a couple of years so I hope there's something good there.
Chris.

Thanks, Chris. Verdict at the hospital today no ill effects - Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Jay, Stock Dove, Nuthatch and Swift in hospital grounds - all good, and frankly yesterday has so much brightened my gloom it must be good for my health.

Much at Blacktoft?

Was at Blacktoft today and got the Ad Spoonbill (great bird!) and two nice sum plum Spotshanks. Also loads of Warblers about.

I gave the Pea fields around Swinefleet a bash for Dotterel, but nothing was found, however 2 Yellow wags showing next to the road made up for that.

Cheers.

I'll give a brief report tomorrow. Those birds can be found (with the exception of nuthatch ) at the hospital where I work. Soon to be Jimmy's though and I'm not looking forward to that.

Had a non-birding family afternoon in Halifax, was hoping to see Peregrines at Piece Hall but there were only Kestrels. On getting back I went to J27 patch, Lesser Whitethroat now singing in Showcase car park, best bit was two f blackcap having a proper fight while the male sang lustily at them.

So I was more than a little disappointed on my return to check t'internet and find Dotterel in Halifax, oh well I'll try for it after work tomorrow.

Spent the afternoon at "hoddy cows lane" Buckton and Old Fall Plantation, not a great deal at Buckton, but Old Fall was alive with birds, reports of an Artic Redpoll (dipped on this one) the hedge rows where full of Blackcaps, willow warbler, Whitethroats....and a couple of Firecrests

Made the trip to Flamborough yesterday - my wife and five week old daughter came too, but stayed in the car park ( the cliff top path was a little too rugged for our buggy ).

Walked for ages and ages looking for the King Eider - didn't have chance to bring my scope with me so was struggling. Started talking to a bloke from Leeds who showed me some Yellow Wagtails in a field and eventually we met up with some other birders who were on the King Eider and let me take a look.

Was very distant but was stunning through the scopes

I just wanted to say thank you to anyone who was on the King Eider at around 3.30pm - possibly the friendliest bunch of birders I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

To the chap who showed me the Yellow Wags and then the Eider - if you are member of this board - thank you very much, most appreciated .... hope you found your Winchats !

Hummm, went for the Eider at around 5pm yesterday and searched in vain for about 2hrs, I am wondering if it had gone, or was so far out the sea mist was obscuring it. Still some nice birds around, a flock of 16 plus Yellow Wags brightened the mood.....

Cheers
