I "believe" that heading over the "bridge" is easier that taking the route past "Goole"
at a cost of £5.20 and rising though....

not as easy as it sounds, mate. What if you're in East Park or on a reserve somewhere, you walk past a brider and they say "hey, there's a such and such from the next hide/round the corner", which is exactly where you were heading and couldn't have missed it. It would have been self found if you'd not met him, but now it isn't cos he's told you about it. Whaddaya do?!
John, I have no idea how to get to "Alkorough".......
The standard self-found rules used by birders at mo are on the punkbirder website. Obviously you dont have to play by these but they make a lot of sense.
Thanks for the directions to "Alkbourgh", decided to head down to Spurn this afternoon, with Mrs T. Wow, Summer has arrived, sunny warm, no wind....etc. Managed 54 species, with Red Backed Shrike, Wryneck, Pied Flys, and a year tick a "Black Redstart in the Crown car park".
Question! Why do "birders" with high powered scopes, bins and cameras, have to get so close to a bird? We had just arrived at Kilnsea to see the Black Redstart, and 2 "numpties", for the want of another word, decided the view through their scope, at a range of 100 yards, was not good enougth and proceeded to get as close to the bird as possible, irrespective of the twenty other birders views....result Black Redstart, flies accross the road and disappears to sight...sorry, rant over.
Hi Dave
same happened to me with the wryneck. It was quite flighty around the parade ground ,then I re-found it settled among some rosehips.
I called a birder over and a small crowd gathered and we had good views.
Unfortunately a photographer who posts regularly in the birdforum gallery wasn't satisfied with his shots so proceeded to lurch ever closer to the bird until you've guessed it, it flushed disappearing over the tps of the bushes.
Hence one bunch of pretty p.....d off birders.
Its selfish behaviour like this that gives photographers a bad name.
When will people learn?
rant over.
Andy
Lets hope the "birder" takes the hint, I wonder if it is one of the guys who pressed the Black Redstart on Sunday morning......? Uses a canon on a monopod with a 400mm lens.
You use a mono pod? I would not imagine for a moment that you would "crowd" a bird, have you bought your new lens yet, or are you considering moving from the "dark side" as many have and changing to Nikon?
