What time is bird?
priority over who?! anyone without Leicas or a life list? Nature reserves are egalitarian, nobody has a priority over anyone else, and as long as everyone follows the rules of the reserve then I don't have a problem

And there was me thinking that people who go into hides to watch the wildlife might have priority over people that go into bird hides for other reasons, like to do, for example, open-air performances of Hamlet, or smoke weed, or indeed film a programme!

Although I will happily concede the point if you slip me a grand or two so I can tut freely at "anyone without Leicas"!

All The Gear, No Idea
Tophill Low where the Red Footed Falcon was, is closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays, so when they filmed Look North on Monday not many people would have been there

The hides are fairburn are mainly used for sexual liaisons for teenagers. It seems unfair to get between them just to look out at a Slavonian Grebe!

But I aint slipping you anything in a hide, mate! ;)

scarce migrant to yorkshire
3 Pec Sands on swine Moor - if they stick about until friday i may have a gander.

There was one last autumn too, I think? In more drier years Tophill has an almost monopoly on autumn wader passage, yet it seems to have been quite poor there this time.

Gotta be worth seeing if those floods at Lisset->Foston are still there...

I'm off to Spurn on Sunday, tagging along on my local bird study group's coach trip, so I'm hoping it stays that way...

Ooh, I wish you luck Pete. There should be something lingering even if nothing fresh arrives. Plus stuff will trickle down. I would be tempted to pretty much stick to the section called the triangle, unless there is anything definite elsewhere. The bushes at Crown and Anchor can take a couple of hours alone sometimes...

Unfortunately, I'm leading 2 birdwatching classes round Spurn tomorrow. Hope it's not going to be spoiled by an obliging Great Grey Shrike. Should have stuck with the office job!

Got this shrike this AM, contemplated taking the rest of the day off when a Dicks Pipit flew overhead. Warblers calling, thrushes coming.

Still pleased to finally reach the 250 aim with Brown Shrike, the fifth shrike species of the year.

And back in time for work!

To be honest I'd be just as happy mopping up a few of my summer bogeys from this year and hoping there's a couple of them still around - I'm considering this my last chance to get my embarassing omissions of yellow wag and whinchat...

Of course a few YBWs and red-breasted flycatchers wouldn't go amiss either.

Knackered - just going to bed - but absolutely mint - Brown and RB Shrike in same hedge 10-15 YB Warblers in old fall plus RB Fly and a few Lap Bunt flyovers. Ringing in the morning - looking forward to a YBW in the hand
