Someone on the course has done a bit of digging & tracked down the identity of the Whooper at Swinemoor today. What follows are Ken D'arcy's own words: I've found "our" swan DJ3, aka Edmund!! He's part of the WWT swan tracking programme. So the antenna wasn't imagined. You can see him on http://whooper.wwt.org.uk/whooper He's second from left in the gallery. The one tucked under someone's arm. Happy birding and bon voyage to Edmund!

A fluke we saw them really. Didn't see any other birders there at all today & the pair will probably be gone in the morning. There's even a google map with Edmund's position marked!
Cheers

Saw Edmund this evening and he's drooping a wing so ain't leaving. Wife staying loyal for now. Also had 2 LRPs but didn't have the 4 L.Egret seen less then a hour later. Did Tophill earlier but v.quiet.

Jack Snipe and a few Sand martins at Tophill Low. The Jack was so showy it was unreal! Really bad video on blog which shows how showy it was and a few stills at the end show the pale on the bill and dark central crown stripe.

Good day at Potteric today - drake garganey (a lifer) showing well, 4 avocets, ringed and little ringed plovers, willow warbler, blackcap...

No sign of black-necked grebes that have been around recently, unfortunately.

While checking out the rough area of land by Thorpe Park at Colton by the M1/A63 junction (still in the vain hope that the overwintering stonechats are still around) I noticed a pied wag acting unusually. It was mobbing something that I thought might have been a b.o.p. . Turned out to be a small parrot of some kind, really couldn't ID it but had blue, red, yellow and maybe green in it's colouring (not a rainbow lorikeet). It made calls that sounded like the background sounds in Neighbours or some other Aussie soap.
Checked the pipits to see if there were any other than meadow and may have seen tree, not really sure. Did find two wheatears, one impressive looking male catching the sunlight well and the usual roe deer.

40 Waxwings still in Cottingham but not on show this evening and the bush is bare.

Slightly early, I know, but does anyone know any near-guaranteed spots for yellow wagtail, preferably not a million miles away from my neck of the woods?
