Near Bracey Bridge, another good Bacon butty spot enroute to Flam. On the footpath towards Lowthorpe in the hedgerow..

A few us from the East Yorks Chapter checked it out this evening with no joy. The wind may have been keeping it in the hedge so it might be worth another go tomorrow.

Between us we had Barn Owl, Grey Partridge, Grey Wagtail and Brown Hare so was not a wasted evening. Site also looked good for Quail.

Thanks for bigging them up! Honey Buzzard pics now added to the blog. Really made the morning after struggling against very strong winds. To see them at their best, please left quick for a larger image.
Cheers

Great pics Michael. Defo not a Common Buzzard!!! Would be good to get such great views on Sunday.

Hells Birders? Satans Slav's?

Michael, pleased to see you were disabused of your supposition, I'm going to use that phrase this week;)

A night in wykeham woods produced plenty of Woodcock but it was quite cold and windy. No nightjars in GG Shrike clearing but did hear a couple at 11ish in the clearing opposite the raptor watchpoint car park.

Congratulations Marcus, on what I guess is your first contribution to Birdwatching magazine, plus the reproduction of one of your fine Red Grouse images. I'm sure it's much more accurate than the article opposite! Whinchat as target bird for Beverley Westwood is just laughable these days!

I'm not sure how long there have been parking charges for the visitor centre at Fairburn. The sign was there in May but could easily have been there before as I normally cycle to the reserve and wouldn't have noticed the sign before.

Had a look in at Fairburn on the way to work this morning, seems you park and buy ticket at the shop..... doesn't say how it is to be policed, can't see any clamping notices. So nothing to stop anyone just parking and saying 'jigger it' to buying a ticket.

Some record shots of North Cave's Spotted Sandpiper added to the blog. A handsome little wader!

Good to see birders being encouraged to put cash into conservation.

Getting there...
Great views of a BNG plus young down at Potteric today, plus little egrets, kingfisher and all the usual stuff.

Scar House Reservoir

Have just returned from a walk around scar house & Angram reservoirs up in the dales. I was walking along with are lass thinking to myself - well its been a nice walk, nice views, nice weather, but weve hardly seen ought when we nearly stood on an Adder sunning itself. We couldnt believe it, I dont know anything about snakes but I was not expecting to see one up there. Does anyone have any info on snakes in the Dales??

As far as the birds went the highlights were - Common sandpipers, curlews and a few Wheatears, no sign of any Ring Ouzels, stone/whinchats, merlin or SE Owls.

Still cant believe we saw an adder - a first for both of us.:t:

Global Warming: it's here! How long until Filey becomes the new Provence...

The nest and eggs of a Dartford Warbler were taken from the Rivelin Valley in Sheffield. I should add that was roughly 130 years ago! It was thought that was its most northern locality at the time, but who knows in future.... ;)
