Anybody report Roseate Tern at Spurn this afternoon? I'm pretty sure a pair flew over Sammy's Point this afternoon following the shoreline towards Kilnsea. High tide is still very rewarding at Chalk Bank with a couple of thousand Knot, some with remants of breeding plumage, plus good numbers of Bar-tailed Godwit and Grey Plovers. Nice smattering of common migrants with one continental Flava Wagtail (called a Grey Wagtail by photographer in the hide) & one Redstart in Canal Scrape. Full report & pics of some of the species on the blog.

Hi Michael, only one seen in the evening roost tonight, but eight blacks, the Roseate went past five minutes after John Sadler had left!

I also was thinking about going to Hornsea Mere fter work. Where is the best place to park as i've never been before and i have a limited amount of time due to the travelling and light considerations, and does anyone know where the Osprey has been roosting (apparantly in a dead tree?).

Any sensitive info can be PMed.

Cheers Mark.

Unfortunately, the main car park at Hornsea Mere shuts quite early at something like 5pm or 6pm. May make things a bit tricky!

Forgot all about that - here's me asking for a pass out for the evening and may be scuppered before I've even started.

Was wondering what the information about the GWE was - ie best place to see it from. The Osprey would be a year tick - but the GWE a lifer.

WW Black Tern now at Hornsea Mere. This is one bird I really want to see. Unfortunately off out with the lads tonight and taking my nephew Badger watching tomorrow! Guess I will have to wait until the next one.

How old is he? If under ten he should be happy with this

It may have been, you simply may not have seen it. ;)

You at the coast this weekend?

Sorry. On opening the hide door was told there was an Osprey and White-winged Black Tern on show. Unfortunately my mate's 'phone was out of action or I'd known earlier and could have told you.
The Great White Egret, like the Osprey, can be seen v.distantly from Kirkholme Pt.
The Tern is best from 2nd field. Parking on Mere View Ave from Hull Rd, but limited.

By 2nd field which do you mean? Is that on the south-eastern shore?

Spectacular gathering of over 500 swallows at Surprise View on the Chevin tonight. Also five Wheatear in the paddocks south of the pub, which looks like a good migrant spot.

There might have been more stuff about but I was struggling with the contact lenses. Only when I got back to the car and checked the empties did I realise the opticians had re-ordered +1.25 and not -1.25!

Who'd have been liable if you'd crashed the car Graham? That would probably have given me a headache. I usually just have a problem with gunky eyes now and then but I've had them stick to my eyes and that is painful especially getting them out.
I'll keep an eye out for wheatear as they may be passing through our way again.

Dipped GWE and Osprey and couldn't definitely swear i saw the WWB Tern. In the poor light at around 8pm i did see a stoat and lots of bats including a very large one hunting over the fields.

Mark.
