Had a superb day in Norfolf/Suffolk yesterday. Produced 5 lifers (Golden Oriole, Stone Curlew, Bluethroat, Dartford & Cetti's Warbler). Had hoped for nightingale (heard one but couldn't see it) woodlark, turtle dove and the purple heron at Minsmere but I returned last night an incredibly happy chappy! Things just seem so much more abundant down there, birds like Cetti's, cuckoo, hobby, marsh harrier, barn owl were everywhere. Had a pair of bearded tits and even had 4 bitterns up over reeds at once!

As much as I love my Yorkshire birding, I can't wait to go back and spend longer there.

Paid a quick visit to spurn this pm - found but failed to see a Golden Oriole after this mornings one had disappeared. It was promptly flushed by another birder not to be seen again. Dont know owt about the shrike. At sammys there was a late Wheatear, a confiding Whimbrel and a couple of Yellow Wags. Male Marsh Harrier was cool and a calling Cuckoo. Only other bird of note was a Lesser Whitethroat near the point.

During the morning dogwalk around the playing fields in york i found a lesser whitethroat feeding young. A bonus was a large fox cub that almost bounded into my legs on the walk back through a copse back to the car. Nice!

Up Timble last night, scored with LEO and roding woodcock. Dipped on the SEO though. As per usual no nightjars there and none been seen or heard at all so far this year.

Norfolk Holiday

Hi

Just returned from a week in Norfolk, not officially a birding holiday but I think are lass would probably disagree!!

Visited many well known sites such as Titchwell, Cley, Lakenheath but also a few less well know places.

Highlights have to be, well, for me there were many, but to narrow it down in no particular order:

Stone Curlew
Trumpeter Finch
Golden Oriole
Nightjar
Crane
Golden Pheasant
Barn Owls
Spotted Flycatcher
Red Backed Shrike
Hobby
Bittern

'Dipped' out on Montys, H Buzzard and Woodlarks but I dont think I am too disapointed given the above. Great week and the weather was pretty good too.

Hi is there any chance someone could be kind enough to send me a PM on where to look for Woodlarks on Hatfield Moor as I’m not too familiar with the site, only been there a couple of times.
Cheers Dave.

I,m still struggling to add a 'Pied Fly' to my Yorkshire list and have seen today on the SBSG website that there were some seen at Agden Rocher. Can anyone give me directions to this area or alternatively offer any alternative locations where I might get lucky. I did try Wyming Brook a couple of weeks ago but failed miserably.

PM,s if necessary of course.

Thanks in advance.

It's not far from midhope but it's quite hard to explain although it's literally just off the road. I'm in Middlewood so we'd need a couple of hours at most. Any night Tuesday onwards would be good for me
