Brown Shrike

Brown Shrike anyone?

A first-winter found mid-afternoon and initially very mobile, but still present at dusk. Viewed from the edge of the stubble field on the cliff top path immediately west of the Golf Course.

Initial discussions centred on the two rare species and unfortunately someone picked up half a radio message and put the news out a bit prematurely. Two Brown Flycatchers on the 'headland' and now two Brown Shrikes - incredible!

Get stuffed! Was at Flamborough today, walked along the path by the golf course, absolutely nothing so turned back. I'll tell myself it arrived at dinnertime.

Anyone going would probably be better parking at North Landing, the path up from Bay brambles was very muddy and slippy this morning, a few hundred feet won't do it much good.

A few of us from Yorkshire went for the American Bittern and Green Heron, the trip to Cornwall was successful, glad we didn't go today! Details and pictures on blog

Saw these birds about 3.00 pm on the pier. Any idea what they are?

Great Crested Grebe bill

I photographed this Great Crested Grebe yesterday on the river at Swillington Ings. What's going on with that bill?

Could it be the bird's tongue which has penetrated the area at the base of the beak or a growth of some kind?

Comments welcome

Dave.
