Anybody any idea what time this bird is leaving the roost as an early morning smash and grab before work is the best I can hope for for the next couple of weeks.

It was reported to have roosted until 07:30 Tuesday, and was seen in the vicinity for over an hour afterwards.

I was there at 07:15 to 08:45 this morning (pretty sure there were no other birders about as I did a couple of laps of the station area) and there was no sign. I see now an 06:30 negative report saying it was not in its roosting spot.

Consolation, though, was five male redstarts competing for prime territory in the Washburn Valley, as well as several Swallows over. Only a couple of Willow Warblers and Blackcaps in, though. Also half a dozen Fieldfare still; don't think I've seen Fieldfare and Redstart on the same day before.

Was at Spurn today (Thur). Great day, started off calling at Boston park Lake for 3 Black Necked Grebes. On to Spurn, Wheatears everywhere, counted at least 25. Ring Ouzel (male) on Sheep field, 12 Swallows, 6 Willow Warbler, a White Wagtail at Sammies, Red Throated Diver and Common Scoter over the sea as well as 4 Eider. 5 Blackcaps, Brent Geese, Golden Plover, Ringed Plover, Curlews, and just before we set off for home a female Marsh Harrier at Sammies. 2 Common Lizards at Canal hide and 3 Roe Deer in the fields. A wonderful day.

Message for JOESPY,
Hi Joe, did you get back to see the Black Necked grebes, there are now four on Boston Park Lake, three of which have been there for about three weeks. For once yesterday one of them was obliging and came close to the hide. Got some half decent shots, and only need a Slav now for the full set of Grebe pics.

Now then Dave....just keep rubbing it in mate...they are spot on....I'll have to get over. Ok to PM you when and you can show me where...?
Cheers Joe

I must admit I quite like the BNG pic, but the Doc gets the vote for me, I have been trying for a chiff for the past couple of weeks but the blighters are always on the move or behind branches. Joe the BNG's are on Boston Park lake at the Car park. Not too often they are near the hide but are never too far away for the scope.
Dave.

Just outside the region, but thought I'd share - showing well at times. It could be seen swimming under water which was pretty cool.

Caught up with your brother Steve. No luck on the osprey front at Arram despite a trio of visits. Lots of hirundines and Willow Warblers and Blackcaps were in. A skyfull of Buzzards were scant consolation.

Talking of Slavs, anyone know if the bird that was at Swillington Ings is still around? Saw it in it's winter drab but would love to get a sight of a full summer kit, no chance at getting over Barton for at least 3 weeks but could do Swilly on the way to work.
