Thanks for the updates. Will be on the phone to Birdguides early tomorrow to re-new my subscription. Might go for the Roller if it hangs around, although I had great views of this species in Kos a couple of years ago.

Was thinking earlier today that Flamborough must be due another mega some time soon. Don't think there has been one reported there since I really got into birding (although I could be wrong).

Interesting comment Mike - what do you have down as Flamborough's last biggie?

Just done a quick review and ignoring seawatching, the last truly tickable biggie appears to be the Taiga Fly back in 2003.

Since then we've had Pine Bunting, Pechora Pipit and Brunnich's Guillemot but none tickable. Additionally there has been a Hume's Yellow-browed and Baird's Sand both in 03.

So.....I think you're right we are due a biggie this autumn.

Marcus, will have to see how I'm fixed Wednesday - can't say yet.

Quick trip up to Loshpootts tonight - first time in ages.

Little Grebe
Several Tufted Ducks
Mallards
Grey Heron
Common Buzzard
Kestrel
Large mixed flock of Greylag and Canada Geese (mainly Greylag)
Oystercatchers
Lapwings
Yellowhammer, Skylark and Chiffchaff still full of song
Pied Wagtail

No sign of your Kingfisher Marcus but some guy was flying a mini helicopter around which won't have helped.

Saw the Roller tonight, along with 2+ Cuckoo, Yellow Wagtail, a Birdieboy and a Bitterntwisted. Took a while before the bird was found at Sammy's Point where it sat on the wires giving decent views.
Really hope it stays for the rest of the week giving the rest of you a chance to see it.
Saw a Barn Owl on the drive home.

Roller

The Roller was showing very well this evening by the first farm north east from Sammy's Point, Easington. It could be seen from the roadside off Humberside Lane or more distantly from the Humber bank at Sammy's.

If you don't count the South Gare on your Yorkshire List...see earlier threads then now's your chance. The last twitchable one was way back in 1968 at Bretton CP near Wakefield!

Posted on the Roller thread already - http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=946646#post946646 - really hope you all get to see it - absolutely superb bird!

G

As usual I planned everything a day late. I hope the pacific goldie is refound as that would be a lifer. The roller looks 'better' than the one I clocked in northumberland last year. I assume that's becuase its in Gods own ;)

I start teh wlak on Saturday so that should cue a spectacular yorkshire purple patch for two weeks!

If anyone is up for a dart out tomorrow then get in touch!

Given that it's now gone, South Gare is defo. in Yorkshire John. When I clocked that one on the Gare, I thought it would be a Yorkshire blocker for a while. Just shows!

Spurn Today

Sadly no sign of the Roller though it could be lurking further inland along the Humber bank. Tonite a Pacific Golden Plover appeared briefly on the estuary by the Warren. Summer is officially over and autumn is with us..

The West Yorks Night Heron reappeared tonite at Fairburn Ings and an ad Pec Sand played hide and seek at Broomhill Flash this afternoon.

Spot Sand.

Have we exhausted all attempts at gaining access? I was in Norfolk when the Swilly bird turned up. Got this sinking feeling that when I disappear down to the south-west a week on Friday for two weeks, Wykeham will hold an open day!
