Seven Waxwings reported on BirdGuides in Sheffield this afternoon, at "Devonshire School". Can't for the life of me work out where they mean by that, though...

EDIT - The possibly mean Springfield School near Devonshire Green. Worth a look if anyone's around there (I am, but won't be out of work until dark!).

shame i've not been paying attention, could have told you where they were, i had a text from someone who was watchiing them

I'm probably the only person to struggle to identify the tree in photo 3. After much thought and head scratching the conclusion is the same Rowan in pictures 1 and 4. Winter trees can be tricky

25 Waxwings were still at Swillington Ings around 2pm this afternoon. We saw them 200 yards down river from the hide by the footpath. I am glad I dont have a diet of berries as they were all, shall we say, revisiting the toilet on multiple occasions as we watched them!! Lovely lovely bird.

Plenty of time Andy. If you don't catch up with any in West Yorkshire I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities around York. Good to hear you've finally got the go-ahead for the new house. I expect to hear regular reports from the Ings :t:

Cheers ken was wondering how long they stick around. Yes will be doing lots of local birding hopefully catch up with some over there!

WACCOE

Marching on Together
Just back from watching 30 Waxwings in Normanton opposite Wisemans dairy.
Whilst I was there a complete knobhead who works at the dairy thought it would be funny to run across the road directly under the tree, in which the Waxwings were sitting shouting and clapping his hands in an attempt to flush the birds. When this failed he then threw a small brick much to the amusement of his colleagues luckily the birds still ignored him and were still sat there when I left at 1pm.

Report this to his employers, it won't matter if you can't identify the individual, the fear of bad publicity will ensure no repetition, after all birders buy dairy products too.

Missed the waxwings at Swillington yesterday but had great views of short eared owl. Returned today and caught up with them around the sewage works entrance, marina and then Woodlesford lock.
The gym can wait until tomorrow.

Thanks to this site (which I've been watching for several weeks but only joined 10 minutes ago) I saw Waxwings in Sheffield about noon today at the junction of Cemetery Avenue and Eccleshall Road. Must have been at least 50 in total. My first ever sighting of Waxwings. Really chuffed. I'm back home in York now where there have apparently been numerous sightings in recent days so I'm going to try Museum Gardens ands St George's Fields tomorrow. Cheers.

At least 285 were in trees around the Swann pub which is just around the corner from the sites you mention this afternoon.

Had a day out at flamborough yesterday for the Richard's pipit. It gave me the run around for a while but finally gave some lovely views hopping around and catching flies. Very charismatic.

Other highlights were a huge linnet flock with twite and snow bunting amongst. Also a short eared owl and some very obliging rock pipits and stonechats.
