First time I've seen the local Redpolls come to the feeders at Sun Lane, Burley in Wharfedale.

I saw a wood duck (drake) in the flat fields north of Airedale Hospital on Monday (18th March). Is this a well established feral species in Yorkshire?

I think it's more likely to be a fence hopper from one of the local bird gardens, you've both Harewood House and Lotherton Hall only a short flight away, both of which have wood duck amongst their collections.

stomped around East coast this weekend, trying again to find laps or snw buntings, but just managed some nice skylarks at Thornwick.Managed to wangle a look at Forge Valley feeders after some shopping today;usual all present, including Nuthatch,Marsh Tit.

But this bird might just make my partner understand! For years, all i've ever seen is a white 'a**e' flying away. Not sure whether regular at feeders, but I enjoyed this bird immensely!

Recently back from a lovely trip to see my parents new place in Stainforth. Really is a beautiful part of the world. Super impressed with the birding too.

Highlights were five (2 male 3 f) goosander on the mill pond between S'forth and Settle section of the valley. I disturbed a large white/dark-marked duck on Stainforth Beck that could also have been goosander... though my first instinct was shelduck - how unlikely would this be so far inland and on such a small water course? Unfortunately I only had fleetingly brief views without the bins.

Other highlights: At least 4 individual dippers. One raven flying overhead just north of Settle. Caught up with the resident peregrines on the scar, plus sprawk, kestrel and pair of c buzzard. Up to fifteen grey wagtail over the weekend were seen.

Only one lapwing the entire weekend surprisingly. Cold weather keeping them at lower ground? I have previously been in the Grassington area at exactly the same time of year and the fields either side of the River Wharfe were teaming with them along with good numbers of curlew and oystercatcher which were also absent last weekend.

There are plenty of lapwings and oystercatchers and a few curlews around in Wharfedale at the moment. Bit of a shame but you were probably just unlucky.

Thanks for the info Florence. Maybe the waders have preference for the next valley along.

As a local do you have any top tips for the immediate area and around the Wharfe or Ribble valleys?

Thanks to the snow I can confirm the partridges that are frequenting the fields by the entrance road to Ledston Luck are grey partridges. Had a great view of 2 yesterday morning on the commute to Castleford and was able to make out the belly patch on the birds. Result!

For Doc Reed. Crossbills at Redhouse. Your inbox is full btw They were where the tracks cross and the conifers start if you park in layby near cattle grid and walk through the wooden gate and along the track until you come to a drain. I'll go with female sparrowhawk for the mystery raptor

Brilliant Steve! No sign of 'em yesterday pm as I mentioned in pm,but I wasn't specially searching for them at that point!Gripped off on my own patch!Happened last year with Jack Snipe as well.Anyway, shows the diversity of birds that can occur at Redhouse, albeit in perhaps small numbers. There is usually something interesting to see!

Inbox should be free now!

2 Red Legged Partridge this morning on the drive into work (year tick), in similar circumstances to last years life tick... nearly dead leg partridges running infront of the car! A nice Barn Owl yesterday and I think I saw a grey partridge (fleeting view) near the Aberford turn off the A63 not far from where Keith has had a lot of Partridges recently.

Edit: Just seen Keiths post, we are looking in the same field!!
