Short eared owl around Guisborough yesterday afternoon, not sure exactly where we were, passed it in the car!

Also tonnes of Redwings at Brawby village where I've been staying for a bit.

At least one of the original group of six to eight Short eared owls remaining at Rabbit Ings, Royston. I watched it hunting over the South side enclosure on Sunday evening at 19:00, brilliant to see!

yes great to see, the last time i saw them they were hunting over the top and have found the best place to see them as they rest on the posts there.

I intend heading east on Wednesday and was wondering if the red-necked grebe was still at Tophill Low? Also, I have still yet to see a corn bunting this year and was wondering are any about at the Copmanthorpe lane by the railway and/or at Bubwith? Finally, I might start the day at Skipwith for the larks. Have any been reported singing of late?
Many thanks in advance.

Chris

Hi Chris,
RNG was at top hill yesterday as far as I know. Corn buntings are in bubwith but don't seem to like the cold and larks have been observed at skipwith as per yorks post bird column, need any more info let me know.

Well, I looked once, looked twice, and had to look a third time to make sure my eyes were not playing tricks.........a solitary Swallow seen early evening by the river at Calder Wetlands. Cant ever recall seeing a swallow before seeing my first Sand Martins of the year!!! Also found 2 lovely male Bramblings at Pugneys - near the long gone boardwalk path. Still Goldeneyes and Goosanders in the area.

Hard to say with this pic Zing but with slight evidence of dark eyestripe and cleaner under belly, I´d go with Tripit
Cheers Joe :t:

Cheers Joe
will try to get a better pic.
bird is slightly larger than a sparrow and was searching for insects at the edge of the water if that helps. my first instinct was rock pipit? bird was inland not at the coast.

Meadow Pipit... Rock/Water has dark(er) legs.

Zing - been looking at that pipit this afternoon at NCW - I too think it is just a Meadow Pipit but it does stand out from the other 10 or so Mipits that are on the same part of the reserve. 2 Swallows; 14 Sand Martins and a Yellow Wagtail from Crosslands Hide this afternoon. Stuart
