Smart bird to find for my beginners this am at N Cave Wetlands. [Channel Wagtail]. Only a record shot, as this was taken through mist & it was quite distant. Texted the reserve recorder, who came for a look & put the news out ;)

Some poor record shots on the blog (can't resize them for this thread)

Zing - been looking at that pipit this afternoon at NCW - I too think it is just a Meadow Pipit but it does stand out from the other 10 or so Mipits that are on the same part of the reserve. 2 Swallows; 14 Sand Martins and a Yellow Wagtail from Crosslands Hide this afternoon. Stuart

Thanks Stuart,
Had another look today but no joy, But at long last a huge number of Swallows and Sandmartins have arrived,
and on returning home found dozens of house martins and swallows flying around the house. Yahoo!!!! ;)

also had these ....

Wagtail at Nort Cave Wetlands

No sign of Michael's Wagtail at NCW today (13.4) - people now consider it to be a Channel Wagtail - interestingly it was ringed. Lots of Yellow Wagtails (at least 11) from Crosslands hide - really looking a promising area - best in late afternoon.
Yes Zing great to see all the migrants today

Hi guys,

I am organising a pelagic trip leaving Whitby harbour over the early May bank holiday weekend, probably Saturday 4th, but this may be weather dependent. It will be for four hours in the morning and probably cost around £30-35. If anyone is interested, there are still spaces available, please drop me an email. Obviously there is plenty of potential for good birds, and it is timed to catch the peak of the skua passage.

The boat we will hopefully be going on also runs regular dolphin-spotting trips, and they are hopeful of some good cetacean sightings also if the weather is good.

Poppleton

Many will remember the SEOs at Poppleton last winter.Several will have re-visited the area to see Gulls this winter. A greaqt area...but no one has commented on the terrible hedgerow destruction going on along the lanes that bound the fields where these birds were seen.

Met a local couple tonight who told me they had called DEFRA....who were NOT interested!

Barn Owl tree so far undisturbed, but many trees uprooted and hedgerows destroyed. Not sure what else to do,apparently this is a farmer who has a very bad attitude and can be a 'nasty piece of work'(quotes).

Its still a bird rich area on edge of York, couple of photos attached.Anyone have any sensible suggestions?

Doc is it the Barn Owl tree you showed me that you are referring to?

I'm afraid I don't know the law well enough re. hedgerows on/bordering private farm land to suggest anything.

What a difference a week makes - Pugneys/Calder Wetlands - loads of willow warblers, 4 whitethroats, 2 Blackcaps, Sedge warblers, reed warblers & a whinchat. Last week was a solitary willow warbler & a solitary blackcap!

There was also a Common Sandpiper at Anglers CP yesterday afternoon that wasnt mentioned on the Barnsley Bird Blog. I see another Ring Ouzel has turned up this morning at the Pol at Anglers, dont know if its still there.
