Yorkshire Birding (35 Viewers)

It's been corrected on birdguides too.

Fooled a lot of people though.
As I say I'm not a big fan of gulls and only trust myself with the glaringly obvious ones. At the time I saw it everyone who was there was happy with it. Probably knew no more than me.
You have to be sure with these things to count them or it eats at you.

Is it too late to get wood warbler at strid wood? my 1st and only visit was last year at the beginning of june & got very good views of wood warbler & had an excellent days birding. Are there any redstarts in the area?

Thanks Paul

They will still be there but without singing it will be a needle in the haystack job.

Wood Warbler - pretty scarce this year at the Strid, I believe there has only been a couple of sightings of single birds.

Redstarts - try up the road from the Cavendish Pavillion bridge by Laund House, we had birds there in May, also birds close to the Northern edge of Strid Wood just before the path comes out onto the meadow land.

Swilly Ings

Wood Sand showing from hide at Astley Lake, 2 common sands, 2LRPs and 1 Black Tailed Godwit.
5 kestrels over hillside with red kite, buzzard & hobby

hello.. i've started getting into Butterflies recently , i was wondering if anyone could recommend some sites close to Leeds/York, for Brown Argus/ Blue .. or am i way out?

Don't know the area around Leeds/York, but Brown Argus, Common Blue. Wall, Grayling can all be found this time of year in Yorkshire.

Old Moor Night Heron ..

Just a heads up for anyone who may still be wanting info ....

The night heron is still present at Old Moor and was seen a couple of times today, I had it flying over to the 'Cuckoo Tree' at 2:05 today and it was seen again later in the day sitting on the top of the River Dearne floodbank before flying over towards Bolton Ings ...

Is access to the reserve available outside the normal opening times? I quite fancy trying for this bird, but I can't get there during the normal day.

A little more luck at blacktoft today, although the woodsandpipers had gone I managed one at swilly on the way home instead. Great views of bearded tits at marshland hide didn't stop alot of people stringing reed warbler as one anyway.

Greenshank, spotted redshank, snipe, common sppr, water rail and yellow wag and plenty of marsh harriers making up the other highlights.

Did I read that second sentence correctly?

Depends how you read the second sentence.

There were at least 3 bearded tits low down in the reeds at a point where some chap was frantically getting everyone in the hide onto a reed warbler which had popped out onto the mud.

Everyone seemed to agree that it was a young beardy, it was mildly amusing.

Juv 2 barred crossbill seen today beside Broomhead Res in Sheffield ..

Now being reported as a fem + 2 juvs.

Can anyone who has visited the site please provide more info/directions for these? i.e. best parking place, grid ref for the feeders, etc. Thanks.

I have a vague recollection of getting lost around there (or maybe at Langsett Res) when I was a kid, and I'd like to avoid a repeat! |:d|

Snap, all I can see on Birdguides is wooden bridge off road, but would appreciate if anyone can help with the road name, and is the wooden bridge along the Res or away from the res, any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping to make the trip tomorrow morning.
Chris
