Hiya,

My Year list is on 109 at the moment and my best advise would be to go to as many different habitats as possible. I regularly go to Wetlands, Farmland and Woodlands and I do pretty well from it.

By the way how exactly do you add those notes like you Year List counts and Life counts as I am...well to be honest technologically challengedo:D

Thanks
Daniel

i cant get beyond 100.......how do you all do it? also cant be bothered at the mo to right all the birds i saw yesterday i will post em tommorow

It's hard to explain but as you've been birding for longer you get to know sites and their birds better and are more aware of whats currently being seen.

Basically before planning a longer trip I check all the sites I possibly can go to, the number of year ticks they offer me and the quality of year ticks they offer me. I also get out to my local patches daily. I've been doing Beddington SF for 6+ hours nearly every day for the last week and a half and Banstead Downs 2-3 hours every day for the last week and a half in addition to that. It all adds up.

A bit unlikely in woodland and i'd be surprised if they'd be gathering nesting material yet.

At Beddington today I saw nothing more than a Peregrine, a Whitethroat and a Common Buzzard.

Welcome to the thread caergynog!

Hello! Every summer I go to LLwyngwril, just south of Barmouth (ie. very near you!) with my family (that includes mr.sim). Keep an eye out in spring and autumn on the coast, it's got a lot of undiscovered potential ;)

Yeh probably right on the grasshopper warbler, but a small brown warbler(definitly not a willow warbler or Chiffchaff) no streaks on it back and apaler brown underside. Any ideas?

At Dads for the night until tomorow when I head to the New Forest for my DofE, Hope for some good birding despite the severe weather warnings!

Northorpe Fen was alive with birds on a newly turned fields-

c100 Linnet (56 on wires and more in the fields)
Mixed flock of Goldfinches and Greenfinches.
22 Chaffinches
1 Green Sand
4 Mallard
20 Yellowhammer
7 Swallows

Also had House Sparrow, many Starling, Skylark, Reed Bunting, R-L Partridge, Pheasant, Rook and Little Owl.

Will Report on DofE when im back

Lots of Redstarts at the moment showing well in the leafless trees, also plenty of Cuckoos and the first Wood Warbler was reported today. If the weather stays good then you should have a great time Dan.

Had a Siskin locally today...hoping the pair will breed! Can't wait to get my exams out of the way now so I can get on with birding!

I've got a load of common birds in my garden (when I say common I mean BT,GT,BB and so on.) Used to have Siskins but they left last year (boo-hoo.) There the only birds I see locally, I have had birds near my garden such as: GSW,LRed and Sprawk.

Welcome to the thread caergynog! Hope you enjoy it here - any queries, just ask...
Had a Whitethroat and a pair of Lesser Whitethroats at Denver Sluice this morning but the visibility was rubbish so didn't get a lot else of note.
