I'm not jealous any more I'm exasperated with my parents. My parents are out and am waiting for them to get back so I can go to Rossal Point and try and see a Leachs's Petrel that have been passing all morning:C

Managed to get 3 Leach's Petrels from Rossal Point this afternoon. We got there just in time as these 3 birds were the last ones to be seen this afternoon as the tide went out. Other birds seen include juvenile Little Gull and Kittiwake.

Unusually for its location, Shetland isn't actually that great for seawatching (except for the seabird colonies). I guess this is because of the lower concentration of birds passing through. I mean, to the birds, shetland is just a few small islands in a massive sea, but to the birds we see passing our coastlines on the mainland, it is a migration route and they will follow it closely in order to get to where they want to be.
On the other hand, Shetland is a superb place for rare passerines.
Just take a look at this site and you'll seee just how good it can sometimes be!

Bird, what bird!
Hi everyone today i went to leighton moss and saw b t godwits, peregrein, kestrel, 20+ little egret, 1 great white egret, curlew, redshank, 2 spotted redshank, 1 raven, teal, 1 marsh tit, coal tit, bullfinch, maybe 1 siskin, pochard, 6 greenshank, spotted redshank, 2 little grebe, and 2 heron.
And welcome to birdforum Rasmus.

Good game boys, good game!
Hi, have been offline for a while due to spending a week and a half in France on a nature reserve called Les Courmettes. Had a fantastic time, though VERY annoying birdwise (my week was full of 'probables' as you will see on my diary when I have updated it in a few days time). Did have great views of Rock Bunting, Cirl Bunting and a brief female Collared Flycatcher (my 3 lifers from the trip) however. Tomorrow I hope to see the juvenile Sabine's Gull at Blenheim Palace... I have only seen them as distant specks whilst seawatching before!

cheers Joseph and Louiso:D yesterday i had one of the greatest days of my life!!! it started when we were driving across Spain over the mountains when i started saying "where are all the bloody vultures???" then, this is no joke, dad shouted out what are those big bird of preys! i looked up to see 3 griffon vultures circling....

We came back the next day after sleeping in the local town, found a car pull in, next to the vultures flight path and waited. a few vultures popped up in the distance sending me into panic to quickly get my scope on them before they dissapeared..... i need not of worried as at that exact point a massive griffon vulture flew from behind us and right over our heads!! i managed a vid but i dont know how to show it yet. Also saw about 7 Red kites, plenty of Ravens and one big bird of prey in the distance which could of been a Golden eagleo:D

That's fantastic TJ! Griffons are lovely birds, and I had very similar experiences to you when I was on holiday in Spain. You'll probs remember me telling you that you'll have seriously good chances of seeing them, and within just a few days of being in the country you have. o:):king:

yepo i remembero:D actaully inland they became quite common at one point, circling over fields and mountains. But they were not as common as the Red kites, we stopped at a fuel station one day and a Red kite flew inbetween the houses and about 5 metres over our heads:eek!:
