I've always enjoyed trips to Blacktoft have good memories of birding there. Also well done to Jonny seeing the LEO always a cracking bird to see.

Im heading back home for the weekend from Uni so going to do abit of local birding. Hopefully get a couple of Year ticks.

Andrew, i was just reanding your blog. It's REALLY good. Shame about the Hen Harrier and Merlin. I had a very lucky sighting of a merlin on the way to my dentists. If you want to see gulls go to the tips near ssaltholme and park on the side of the road, thats where i have seen all my white winged gulls.

Thank you very much. I have seen both white wingers before but never had a good view of a Glaucous Gull sadly. I will some day I am sure.:t:

Bird, what bird!
Hi everyone, sorry i havn't posted for ages because i've been skiing, firstly yesterday i went to sizergh castle and saw bullfinch, songthrush, jay, treecreeper and 2 hawfinch. Then i went to rampside and saw knot, brant geese, redshank, curlew, water pipit, eider, turnstone, ringed plover, golden plover, grey plover, dunlin and wigion.

I've had a great weekend in wales. Saw the Black Kite and over 80 Red Kites at Gigrin Farm and single kingfisher, dipper, willow tit and tawny owl from our cottageo:D Will upload full trip report later on my blog

hi all
summary of my weeks birding
sat 13th great grey shrike at morton baggot warks, also female merlin, 5 yellowhammer and 400c linnet
14th- drake gadwall on the patch(stourport worcs), also marsh tit
15th- little egret and bittern at upton warren, worcs(pic of egret below)
16th- gadwall still on patch,
17th- male merlin hunting a few feet above the ground at hagley worcs
18th- little egret a drake wigeon and a male siskin at upton warren
19th- wyre forest, worcs- jack- nothing-dead
20th-upton warren, worc, peregrine and jack snipe

Hi Everyone

Just wondering whats everyones bogey birds? Mine are Bean Goose and Lesser Whitethroat (I still cant believe ive never even stumbled across one).

My aim this year is to reach 250 so only 21 to get hopefully this year will be a good year.

my old bogey birds were black tern, little egret and knot, but last year i saw them all(in quite good numbers), so now i really dont have one now, but hen harrier would be most likely, only ever seen 1
but this doesent extend into birds dipped, which included a red backed shrike on my local patch(in worcester), that one hurt when it wasent seen again:-O

Hen harriers my fave bird of prey so always make sure i make a few trips a year to see them...
