Young Birder (1 Viewer)

No new birds recently
but last friday, i dipped on iceland gull and caspian gull at stubbers green, i then moved to chasewater where i saw the stunning drake smew, but didnt get any decent roosting gulls.
today, i was hunting one of my regular places (not really a patch) of trimpley res. and eyemore wood. imagine my supprise when 2 waxwings were perched in a tree in the car park, in and area that is completly surrounded by trees, they dropped down to feed many times in the evening light ( had slready walked through the wood, along the river, checked the Res. then moved back to the car park when they appeared), they shown really nicely in a location i didnt think i would get one, also 56 Mandarin on the river and 13 goosander. quite nice evening tbh :)

Hi all,
I can't believe it, I didn't know that that many young birders even existed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My British List is 165, my yearlist is 142, and my lifelist is 270 (I've been to India). I keep a local patch list which is 75, latest goodies being Firecrest, Barn Owl and Grasshopper Warbler.
Hope to chat to you all soon.
Cheers, Jyothi
p.s. I'm 12 and have been birding for 5 years

LOL I am 12 too!

New to Birdforum, been birding for...what...3 years?
Young birders are somewhat rare, but it is great they do exist.

That was a good few years ago now, Joe has somewhat aged since, and his British has certainly grown considerably with some bloody good stuff on there...he's quite the little twitcher now.

A great day's birding today, not with many year ticks, but with some quality birds. I managed to re-find a Great Grey Shrike today at Netherley near Aberdeen that was last reported two weeks ago. I was treated to great views of this bird. I was treated to similarly great views of two Pale-bellied Brents at Inverbervie - Brent Goose is an uncommon goose here in Aberdeenshire, so its always good to see one.

I have written a blog post on today and yesterday. It includes several photos I managed of the Great Grey Shrike, the story behind how I re-found it, and photos of the Brents. If you would like to give it a look click on the link to my blog below, any comments are welcome. Thank you :t:.

You can take part, however you can only count species that you have seen in your own country on your yearlist as i'm guessing that you've been away since you said, "I'll do an exact count on the Flight back to Australia". Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh Yes, I am currently in Thailand, so I shall give you another post when I've been in Aus long enough to get enough ;)

Thanks!

My parents have agreed, weather permitting, to take me birding all of saturday so I should be able to get plenty of year ticks. I may also try and get to Carnforth for a Shorelark that has been present the last few days as I still need that for life.

For anyone who doesn't yet know my new blog has been running since the 1st January and I am trying to do a post a day for the whole year. I;ve jsut uploaded my the 2nd of a 4 part post on the review of the year 2010. So if you want to take a look the link is below.
